Possible problem with the Oxford vaccine.

Been told there is a problem with the Oxford vaccine.

It hasn’t been tested properly, the half dose was done by accident when a contractor screwed up and they do not have enough results for approval in the US.

Also they mixed together results from Brazil and UK which apparently is a no no for this sort of thing.

Make of it what you will!

But you won’t be getting it living abroad right? so why worry by scaremongering the rest of us?
So who told you?

Merry bleeding Christmas

He’s not happy slagging the NHS off he now comes out with more bullshit.
So come on tell us your source?
I’ve said, someone who knows Boris.

A name is irrelevant as you do not know them.

It was the same person who told me Boris was in a very very bad way (which was posted on here), days before the press broke the news.

Bozo “in a very very bad way”! FAKE NEWS to garner sympathy and to divert attention away from his pathetic handling of the pandemic!

Yeh - all the nurses in IC lied about it.

They do not transfer the ultimate power over the military to someone else when everything is ok 👍

To add which I meant to put in my original post is that ‘The Oxford trial really struggled due to lack of vaccine availability’.

It’s mad and I understand people doubting it, but wait and see.
👍🏻
Red flags summarised here:

Dr Anthoni Fauci, top of US health services, quoted in yesterday's Times as having some concerns over the efficacy rate of 60% but wants to better understand how it rises to 90% when the dosage is changed, watch this space.

I know you don't post bullshit so I have no reason not to believe you.
The issue is whether these problems can easily be resolved.
The half dose thing was a bonus and the vaccine could go ahead with a full dose.
I'm sure they can unravel the Brazil and UK results pdq.
So hopefully not a major problem.
Not bothered if it's approved in the USA. All the more for the rest of us.

Thanks Insider, Jaffa seems to have issues with anything I post, which I find funny.

Hopefully they can sort it out, but it’s not about whether they can sort these results out - it’s whether they have enough results to truly prove if it works.

The half dose - which was an accident - could well be a genius mistake.

Time will tell, but all is not as it appears at first look.

One, l think it’s just bad timing when you posted the OP on the back of the bad news that we’re in Tier 3 but time will tell as you say.

Another knobhead going on my ignore list

This is not news. it was known since the press release by AZ that half dose was not trialled in USA arm and FDA will not authorise without further data from the USA. Hence at present if AZ want FDA approval it will have to be at full dose. hence 60%. It has no relevance to what dose is authorised here.

The only issues I have with you is for someone who does not even live in our country you have this beef about our NHS System.
Now I’am not saying for one minute it’s not without its problems but both my son in law and daughter both work in the NHS (at Victoria hospital) both have gone above and beyond in their duties in dealing with Covid-19 patients often working 12 hour shifts 7 days a week and this has been from March.
Both caught the virus through work and both were ill albeit for a relative short time due to age/health but both couldn’t wait to get back to work again and soldier on looking after the really sick.
So when I see negative comments about the NHS now you will understand why I have issues with you or indeed anyone else.

Assume the Americans will be happy the American vaccines have skipped several notable testing phases in the dash to human trials.
And the FDA would be happier about people having a full dose of (not fully tested) Oxford vaccine above a half-dose. Hmmm.

Nope I do not understand as I have said many times - ‘it isn’t the front line staff’ - therefore your beef is not based on the actual reality of my opinion.

it does not change the fact either that the NHS can’t cope in normal times. let alone now - and is therefore not fit for purpose.

Anyway, The Times have just broken the story I posted before.

Oh FFS I give up.
Good riddance you hypocrite.
Enjoy you life living in another country which is obviously miles better than poor old Blighty.

I have no idea whether you are a hypocrite or not.

But you do seem to delight in shit stirring from a safe distance.
I just post how I see it and what I know. I have posted on here for years, including when in the UK.

Also, please tell me where I have ever posted something that is deliberately incorrect to wind people up? (Excluding the odd obvious joke etc)

After being castigated by some, the opening post is now published as a story on The Times app and probably web site, where the publish time is after I posted it.

And while we are here....

On the subject of Hypocritical beliefs....

You thought it was acceptable for Bury to go bust to get change in football governance - but would have it been acceptable to you if it was Blackpool?? 😉

Still waiting for the answer 👍

I've answered that last point several times. You aren't going to get a different one now.

But as you mention the topic, I've chucked a few quid into their rescue fund, and wrote to James Frith last year enclosing pro-forma lists of questions he could put to the EFL and the DCMS Select Committee. What did you do?

It said on the lunchtime news that you have an inoculation and then in 3/4 weeks you get another one which would bring it up to 90%.
Think that's OK.

Looking at the story in the Times it doesn't seem to amount to very much.
AZ maybe have overcooked the results in the press release but more will be known as more trial participants are enrolled and more catch CV.
Combining the two trial groups to give an overall effectiveness of 70% was clearly a mistake - but I think that doing this was the only way that the results could have been unblinded and reported under clinical trial rules - in truth the two different regimens should be treated as entirely different experiments. But to be fair, these are unprecedented times.
The Times story also says that none of the 2700 in the regimen that gave the 90% result was over 55. So the half dose regimen may turn out to be a lucky mistake or the 90% figure may be because of the ages of the trial participants. More testing needed.
In short the results raise a few questions that will be answered by more testing. It's bad news for our hopes of exiting the situation quickly but not a total disaster.
There is a race to be the first to develop a cheap usable vaccine (the first two announced are difficult to distribute).

I have never seen you answer the question properly and definitely not directly - any chance you could link to it or answer again so we can put this one to bed?

All I want to know is if you thought it was acceptable for Blackpool to go bust to get your agenda of Football governance change, when you thought it acceptable for Bury to go?

Did you tell the Bury people about your thoughts that you posted on AVFTT about acceptability of Bury going bust for your agenda?

...and what did I do to save Bury - nothing - irrelevant point.

Can you stay on topic please - start another BRR hypocrasy thread if you want to discuss what he may or may not have posted about Bury FC
20s would be all over it.

Oxford uni actually said that the half dose was an accident, but the results of a half dose followed by a full dose 1 month later are valid, 90% effective.
Nothing to see here.

It’s not that simple apparently.

They never gave the half dose to anyone over 55, plus the results were merged between countries which is a no no.

Also the sole size is very small.

Much more testing is required - but will the regulators be leaned on?

Sadly that will take time which is what we are short of.

My gut feeling is if the vaccine is safe just go with it even if it’s only 60% effective.

We can catch up / re-vaccinate later - or does anyone know if that’s not possible???

I'm may be wrong but I thought the testing same was over 50,000. The sample size for an flu vaccine is around 5000.
Let's not forget that Covid virus has been around for a long time, C19 is one of many and all the Pharma companies have been working on vaccines for years. Non of the 3 vaccines have come from ground zero.

Likely that it will be much better than the 60% quoted which is the lowest end of the scale.
That’s us all over. Quick to play things down while the Yanks and Russians etc are bigging up their own solutions. Such is life.

Thought did occur to me earlier: we will be rolling out to over 80’s and care home residents / staff in first tranche. Surely they would be better rolling out to the worst hit areas (Tier 3) first, in an effort to stop the spread and get the economy moving again.

Sadly the half a dose one was about 2700 people in total, but the age range didn’t include anyone over 55.

The full dose was somewhere between 8 and 9k (I think)

Why are you so ** hell bent on dissing this and being a doom merchant?

Not dissing it, just talking about what’s going on.

I want a vaccine as much as anyone - BUT I don’t believe in sticking my head in the sand, as it’s best to deal in reality.

I think a lot here are missing the biggest positive about this vaccine and that is no person either young or old or in either arm(low or high dose) of the trial or in either country got hospitalized if they contracted covid. If all this vaccine does it turn covid into a relatively minor upper respiratory tract infection then it will have done its job.

Of course you are dissing it. See the positive, it’s the best news this year and gives us a realistic end to this nightmare.

Read my posts from when the news was announced last week- I was over the moon at the headline figures.

The problem is they appear to be misleading.

Personally if the vaccine appears to be more effective at half does to under 55s, I would roll it out to under 55 of age NHS staff and carers - while running a bigger trial on the over 55s, plus still monitoring the under 55s closely.

I desperately want it to be successful, but to make it successful you have to know where the problem is - so you can solve it.

Breaking News on Bloomberg and Sky.

AZ to run another global trial.

That makes no sense whatsoever. There is not yet any conclusive proof that the vaccine stops virus transmission, so vaccinating the group (under 55) who have relatively little risk of serious infection does little to change the current situation.
