Preston man jailed

Love to read it. Unfortunately restricted 🙁
Oh. I don't know how to correct that, sorry. Interesting tale, albeit 150 years old. A visitor to Blackpool lost a £50 cheque on the beach (about £6,500 in today's money). She frantically searched for it, tried everything all to no avail.
It was found by a Preston resident who, long story short, borrowed money on the back of it and forged her signature in an attempt to endorse the cheque and partially cash it and bank the remainder.
Due to his suspicious nature, and the high value, the bank clerk alerted police and ultimately a prison sentence was given to the man and his wife.
Probably Google-able, his name is Thomas Whittle and it was 1858
👍
