Promotion

I’m probably on my own in this but I’m not really that bothered. A nothing season of watching 3/4s of a team of players I’ve never seen live, only on a laptop. I only watch the games because there isn’t really much else to do.

I’m not connected to this team. I’d rather we get promoted next season when, hopefully, we can actually support the team.

Before today I'd say it was possible, but this game proved to me that the players we have available just aren't at top end league one level I'm afraid. It's no exaggeration to say we were totally outclassed in the second half by a side who had just lost three at home on the trot. With a full strength team we'd have an outside chance but we're just missing too many key players for too much of the season unfortunately.

Got no chance playing like we have.

Even against Wigan first half it could have gone either way and wasn't enough control shown.

Against Northampton we didn't create much and let them in the game way too much.

Today was absolutely dire.

We can have spells where we can produce things at times but for a team now well into the Critch way I'd expect to see a much better drilled side. Who know how to pass and dominate games. This is what he said upon arriving and Sadler wanted attacking football and so did the fans.

When we have possession at times its harmless in the areas they want us to have it try and go forward its closed off so either pass back to keeper or go long far too often.

As said sometimes we can pass it better but its not enough.

Today we saw so many misplaced passed and bad touches.

People say if not this season then next but I dont see the type of football being produced by some of them to keep us winning to get us right up there.

Suppose it depends on how soon we can get the likes of CJ and Madine back. If it’s March, then this season might be gone

It’s 6 points from 9, or 9 from 12 if we beat Burton.

Ipswich away was never high on our list for 3 points, but they were there for the taking and manner of the performance was disappointing.

Still all to play for, and we’ve had lots missing recently. I’ve not given up on play offs.

We can't rely on games against Wigan, Northampton and Burton as a barometer of what we can achieve. To get towards the top six we have to pick up results against better sides than those and I don't think we're capable of it. We can do it with key players available as we've already shown, but not without. Injuries are really killing our season, unfortunately. Particularly the ones to Anderson and Hamilton which are more long term.

The 6 points came from playing 2 clubs in 22nd and 23rd place who can’t buy a win at the moment.
We played a very average team today who have been lacking confidence of late yet they won at a canter could have and should have been 3 or 4 nil.
Interesting game Tuesday night playing the bottom club who beat the leaders today.

Fair point and as you say we have done it against the better teams. I think most clubs would struggle with so many out for such a long time. Maybe top teams will have similar problems at some point, and they too are losing points to lower teams. Got to stay positive, I think it’s a key strength of a Pool fan.

If you point all these things out to people, you’re told, ‘stop talking bollocks the second half of the seasons there for the taking’ in a vain run chase.

Why do people cite the maths of it? It's not about whether it's possible to get top six, it's about whether it's likely with all the information we have available. Yes if we win 2/3 we'll get in the playoffs. If we win them all we'll go up as champions. But what evidence is there with the players available that we'll do either. Hardly any I'd suggest, so it's perfectly realistic to suggest we'll struggle to achieve anything this season.

Unfortunately our injuries have come to players who play in an area of the pitch that we've struggled all season, even with them in the side. I don't want to make excuses but it wouldn't be right to not acknowledge it's had a big impact on which way our season has turned. Hamilton was a real creative outlet in the first 15 matches and we've struggled to adapt to losing him for so long. I think if we're to get anywhere next season, we need other players with pace who can take up his role if necessary. Simms is a decent start, but then if we don't play him anyway then really we're shooting ourselves in the foot.

Every time we win, we're going on a run and we're going up.
When we lose everyone is shit.

This board must be what it is like having a bi-polar missus.

Today was the day that I finally admitted to myself that we are not going up this season. Playing one striker has not worked in any matches all season. Changes the tactics continually apart from during the match when it is needed. Substitutions far too late as usual.

Think we’ll do well if we can finish in the top 10 myself.
I’ve never changed my views all season, we’ve had some impressive wins but had some shockers and consistency is the key which at the moment we just don’t seem to have.

Look at the attack-minded team that got us promoted from league 1 in 2007.
Now look at the current squad.
Standards need to improve drastically, or its another season of mid-table mediocrity.

Fact...last 6 league games P6 W2 D1 L3.
Where is the case for optimism?
We've only one decent defender in Ekpiteta. A very limited midfield, short on legs, creativity and goals. Without Madine's presence up front we're toothless.
The play offs are out of the question this season and any season with clueless Critchley in charge.

The lady with the fuller figure hasn't even started to warm up yet!

If we try not to lose rather than try to win, as we did today, she may as well start bellowing it out!

This league is there for the taking by any team that cares to go for it! We've got some catching up to do but there's half a season to go and playing like we want to win will put us in the mix!

I genuinely dont think we let Northsmpton in the game at all.

Ipswich are a big club in this division
It's no shame to.lose against them at their place
The fact that it was a poor performance second half is actually encouraging because it means we can do better
I'd rather lose with a poor performance than lose after we d done our best
We have injuries. We didn't have the goal machine
We will win the next game

We aren’t the only team with injuries, he keeps repeating the mantra we have the numbers and quality of players to cope, we clearly don’t.

I get exactly what you’re saying PB about promotion it would be an empty achievement for me, we’re nowhere near consistent enough so let’s do the learning between now and the end of the season and hopefully we’ll be back in the ground next season to show some real support and roar them on!

We aren't the only team with injuries, but we are much more heavily reliant on one or two players for an attacking threat which other clubs aren't, and they're out injured and will have missed a good portion of the season. We just haven't coped with Hamiltons loss at all.

No, but as I said NC keeps saying we have the quality in the squad, which we clearly don’t. Does he think we don’t watch the games?

Do all these other so called stronger teams win every week? How did Hull get on with bottom of the league Burton?

Out bullied/witted more than out classed

I disagree, I think they were in it, it was 1-0, neither side dominated, we had better chances, they score but was offside, was probably marginal, has a few half moments also.

We really didn't distance ourselves from them in a way that says we are a clear level above. Like a promotion side can do.

I thought we should have been leading at the break because Ipswich were there for the taking throughout the first half. Losing goals either side of halftime deflated us and we could easily have lost 4 or 5 nil as we totally fell apart in an appalling second half. It seemed like the first few matches of the season all over again, which made me shudder. It is obvious to me that we haven't got anyone that can do the business as a lone striker. With Madine unavailable, Yates and Simms should have played up front in a 4-4-2.
Nobody was more confident than me about The Mighty Pool going up this season, and when we had a few successive wins with the Doncaster defeat in between, I was more certain than ever, because we had come good after the dismal start to this season. One point from 3 games around Christmas put a spanner in the works, but I was optimistic again after Wigan and Northampton. Please try to play the best possible 11 available all season and go for the jugular. We simply cannot afford to get less than six points from every three games if we have any desire to finish in the playoffs.

Ipswich had lost 5 out of their last 6 home games.
Never a better time to play them.

They win more weeks than we do. Which might suggest they either don't have the injury list we have, or if they do they can more adequately cover for any loss. Either way, I'm not panicking or downbeat because I think we are making progress. But currently there's nothing that suggests to me that we're capable of putting a promotion run together this season without our injured players.
