Proud and ashamed - emotional roller coaster of being a Blackpool fan

First and foremost it's been great to be back at Bloomfield Road this season and talking and caring about football again rather than other matters, I have started looking forward to Saturday afternoons again.

Whilst this is the first season ticket I have bought for 5 years, it feels like I've been back for much longer as so much has happened in a short space of time... a new owner that cares about the club, constant investment on and off the pitch, dialogue with supporters, a decent pitch, a new /old manager, then his sacking, a promotion push then a terrible run of form and finally a search for another manager.

I have to say that since being back I have had mixed emotions about a number of things going on, so here goes....

I am very proud of;

1. Our new owner and the direction the club is heading, there must be a lot of envious clubs looking inwards.

2. The amazing support that the fans have given the team from the stands (despite some negative football tactics from our last manager) if the atmosphere is this good now when we're not playing that good, it could even exceed the premier league days if we start challenging for promotion.

3. The continued progress and visible signs of improvement around the club. (Sponsorship, player investment, decent pitch, links to the community, plans for training ground, fans liaison, backing Blackpool campaign, relationships with local businesses and the council, flags in the North Stand to name a few)

Now here is the sad part ( for me anyway)..

I am ashamed of;

1. Our own fans booing their own team and players and getting on their backs with some obscene language. It's sad to think our own players may prefer to play away from their own supporters. It can only have a negative effect on the team and individuals.

2. Numerous pitch invasions, I have no problem with passion and emotion spilling over to the pitch side but not those who just want to run toward and goad away fans and opposing players and managers. It will end up getting the club into trouble, nothing else. Just celebrate, why the conflict?

3. Throwing bottles and flares onto the pitch. (Dont get it)

4. Some of our chants..

- There seems to be a constant need to abuse the away supporters by referencing the numbers in attendance, slagging the place they live or telling them to leave Blackpool and f**k *ff or they're s**t or similar. (In my opinion this is only going to encourage their team and fans to sing louder or play better so why not put all our energy into getting behind our own team?)

- Not to.mention that telling people to leave Blackpool doesn't fit with our shirt sponsor 😊

- The language used within a large number of our chants. We are trying attract new fans and families to support the club, I think that currently a lot of people would be put off by some of the behaviour and chants.

Let's get behind the team with all our passion and effort but let's make it an enjoyable environment for all our own supporters and players #UTMP

for real?? its standard in every football game

I suppose Ipswich singing Blackpools a shithole... didn't prompt a response then... its football banter.

Agree about going on the pitch it shouldnt happen but last minute winners and people flood down from the north and people spill onto the pitch, a few take it too far.

Agree about getting behind the team and we do.

Agree with most , some of the chants have been going awhile , however “get into them and Fk them up “ - nah , distasteful and no need -

So we have to be like everyone else then ??? Why not set our own standards rather than copying everyone else. If away fans start singing abusive songs let's just use it as an incentive to sing louder and in greater numbers but it doesn't have to be abusive. I mean a large number of our own fans were singing "we're f*****g s**t" a few games ago, never mind the away fans!

You delicate little flower 😂

If you can’t handle a bit of bad language and banter then seriously the football isn’t a place you should be going.

Get a grip.

We have just won two games in a row and all we can do is attack fan on fan it's utter nonsense.
As to swearing people need to get in the real world it's part of everyday life like it or not.
Music film/TV ,school playgrounds etc so having it a football should be the least of folks worries.
