Proud of our fans

They have two half arsed chants. P - N - E and that one.

I was thinking given the amount of work the EFL/FA etc have been putting into challenging homophobic attitudes in football, that this chant should be reported.

It's openly homophobic and would be a real issue to the many people who actually do have gay dads. MrsTSS's cousin is in a gay marriage and they have adopted 2 children.

I might report it actually and see if anything gets done.

It really isn't acceptable.

Yep other way round and bfc would be getting all the bad press and saying we have knuckle daggers. 🙄

really proud of all our fans yesterday.
Nobbers chanted the usual your mums a crack where chant, but no one retaliated with the old rather have a tower than a Mosque chant. Well done all 👍
Also in their victory they invade the pitch and cause chaos.

We behaved and acted more civil.

A neutral watching both games, you'd probably say it looked like their cup final.

It is banter that is all and will continue even if a few get angry about it.
It's homophobia excused as 'banter'

Throwing banana's was considered "banter" - most people have moved on. Obviously not Preston.

The club will be wearing the rainbow laces etc at the appropriate time, but haven't yet come out and say this chant isn't ok.

The Tangerine Army are simply the best there is.
NC said on 103.9, when he looks at the crowd, we mesmerize him, to the point where he would like to join us - then he remembers that he has a job to do 😍
What are the words to that lengthy, relatively new anthem that the north sings? It's brilliant but it's difficult to catch all the words.

Look i am not overly keen on away fans every week saying we live in a shithole and other unpleasant things but i am not going to get stressed about things i cannot do anything about.

But we can do something.

A simple email to Preston with a CC to the EFL is doing something.

I'm not stressed about it, but it's not right and if I'd taken a couple of relatives to the game, they would have been deeply upset by it.

It's a homophobic chant by design; being gay isn't a choice, having a gay dad, even less so. It belongs in the same place as our "I'd rather have a Tower" chant - consigned to history.

You let us know how you get on. You do though seem very stressed about it.

Genuinely not stressed; take more than 2000 homophobes with combined IQ in the low 50's to upset me. It's what I expected. But I've taken relatives to football, one lesbian, the sister of one the the 2 gay cousins etc. It's unnecessary.

I just don't like hypocrisy either and PNE need to get their fans to change the words to the chant so it isn't homophobic.

Not difficult really.

I am not keen on some things that are said from all sides including the shithole comment but i am not going to raise my blood pressure about it. Go ahead though and let us know if you can change what hundreds/ thousands of fans chant.

I find it ironic that fans sing about Blackpool being a shithole and the place they live is worse or just as bad.Yes we have some deprived areas as does all towns and cities .At the end of the day it does'nt upset me ,I just smile to myself.

In fairness they would have sounded louder but half of their fans can't remember the words to the 'P-N-E' chant.

I just don’t think

“Some parts of Blackpool are a shithole and some are ok”

Scans very well 😂

I think it would be funny if we sang - at away games

“Blackpool’s a shithole but yours is much worse”

Sat in a cafe in preston town centre waiting to get a train, a young lad with his dad is striding along in full Blackpool kit. That has just made me smile!!
Should have taken a photo, I was sat in Cafeune near the grander looking buildings, museums or art gallery possibly. That tangerine shirt was the best thing on show in that town today!

I've sent an email to PNE; copied in our SLO, The EFL and Pride in Football.

There's a couple of good links here to what people in football are trying to do to eradicate homophobic abuse.

I'll update you all if I get a response.

Just wanted to say that I've received a response from PNE; much of it is generalist anti-discriminatory rhetoric and that they are as concerned as I am about the 'incident'. It reads as a standard cut and paste job; but that's my interpretation and if I am being fair to them, possibly not how they intended it to come over.

They have also said that they will reinforce the message across social media prior to our game with them in March.

From my perspective it's weak; I'm pretty sure if it had been racist abuse it would have been a far stronger response and measures taken, however let's see what happens in March.

My workplace is actually a 'third party reporting site' for hate crimes and if it does happen again, I'll use this route to escalate it.

No point wearing rainbow laces and armbands and allowing large swathes of your fan base to sing homophobic chants.

Rode through Preston on my bike t'other day wearing tangerine gloves with 'BFC' across them in black. I'm no hard man, but I've NEVER been afraid to wear my colours...even outside Burnden Park in the bad old days....
