Ha Ha brings back memories I dont like the Dubliner like

Fulham away in the Prem. I went in the White Horse at Parsons Green - Sloan Ranger territory. I used to go there with work mates on nights out when I worked with the MOD at Earls Court. I was expecting massive prices but no. £3.30 a pint. Well impressed.

Nothing wrong with Lytham as i have finally found a cheese shop that sells Shropshire Blue. 😀
Shropshire Blue is amazing! Got me in to blue cheese.

Little tip. Makes some thick mash potato. Make a ball of mash and stick a slab of Shropshire blue in the middle. Bake on high heat for 10-15mins and server your steak of choice, red wine, shallot and mushroom gravy with it and greens of choice.

The Dubliner has to go down as one of the best pubs I’ve ever been in.
Yes it’s as rough as hell but live bands, peanuts on the bar, women with loads of cleavage- if Heineken did pubs.
Nearly got my face kicked in there many times, the stories I could tell mate

A pint of Wilsons mild was about 1s 1d when I had my first pint. 😉
It was only later that I found out from a friend of mine that had a holiday job working there where the workers used to urinate if they couldn't get to the toilet in time. 😟
Not had a pint of mild in years I used to love it, happy memories of a few pints of mild in the gardeners arms in Thornton & playing pool then cycle to the tram stop, watch the mighty, couple more beers after the game, get the green( newspaper not cannabis )coupled with watching the scores coming in from outside a tv shop, go to the chippy on central drive that had an Italian sounding name - stevonias?back home ready for match of the day, simple pleasures but some of the happiest days of my life, ffs I’ve sent myself into a nostalgic depression now

Stevonias - Italian sounding name? More like it belonged to Steve and Sonia. :) Quite common in Blackpool for names to be merged especially in hotels/guesthouses. Always a good chippy btw, used it often after a night out. Might also have been the chippy where Hanratty was collared if memory serves.

Correct that’s jogged my memory it was Steve & Sonia, they moved to Blackpool in the early 70s from brindisi

Er .. Hanratty was nicked October 1961 in the Stevonia. He had dyed his hair but it went wrong and he looked like " a canary " according to the constable who arrested him.As this was 16 years before the punk scene he naturally drew attention to himself by his appearance. He was a psychopath who murdered a man and raped a woman. Some people doubted his conviction including John Lennon but many years later DNA evidence proved he was indeed the culprit.

Well, I'm off for a few beers in Manchester tomorrow hitting Sadler's Cat & then the Cloudwater brewery....Then Old Trafford
I doubt many pints will be under £5 and some are £6.00+ for a half a pint or a 440ML can.......

You know you are getting old when you can remember paying £1 for a pint

I can also recommend St,Annes Cricket club Beer, wine & Gin festival in a week or so......lots of decent brews etc.....4 pints for £10
And Freddy Flintoff coming to play a cricket match for his 1st club.......and it's NOT ** PRESTON......other 'personalities' appearing as well🤩

I make my own beer. Right now I'm drinking a beer I made with hops posted to me from New Zealand. The hops are called Tangerine Dream and you can't buy them in the UK. This really nice guy grew them in his garden and was delighted to send me some when I explained why I would love to have some. It's a fantastic beer, if I say so myself! Hoppy blonde ale.

I live in Old Trafford, there's not many drinking options here! Spoons and a couple of other crap boozers by the United ground. The Tollgate at Trafford Bar.

I spent 8 years in Chorlton....so after the match it's down to Beech road and Brewski's bar
Yeah, Old trafford is crap for decent boozers.....Tollgate?...that the one by Trafford metro station......spent years passing that place......looks grimm

I’d never heard of him before so I’ve just googled
Very interesting & the stevonia connection is a bit bonkers

I don’t remember that name at all, but then it’s a long time ago, I can’t remember having a general manager either, there was a board of directors and heads of departments, head brewer etc. but back to urinating, who knows, I guess it could happen, but they were rigorous with quality control. Had some good times there.

I’m staggered at these prices.

Here in Singapore you are looking at £4-5 a pint in decent places for a known beer such as…..

Guinness
Kilkenny
Stella
Paulaner Helles or Wheat
Peroni
Speckled Hen
Czech budwar
Carlsburg
Tiger
Singha
Cobra
San Miguel

…and many more you would know!

Don’t get me wrong - go to a tourist trap here and you can pay £7-10 a pint!

I think I was paying the equivalent of about £8 a pint at the Irish bar at Orchard Towers back in 2009. Those were nights out with the other officers.

A big bottle of Tiger at the Chinese places over the road was about £3. Those were nights out with the crew.

Always preferred the latter. The girls were always friendlier at those places as they needed to be able to chat to you for an evening, whereas the ones in orchard tower were expecting you to be minted and mostly ignore them until time to go.

I assume you mean Muddy Murphys?

Looking at street view it would seem so, though I could have sworn it was McGinty's. Memory eh?The area on the opposite side of Orchard Road looks to have changed a lot in the last 15 years.

There was a little cafe/bar type thing with outdoor seats near to a mcdonalds or burger King that did Chinese food and cold beer (and hot women at night...) which was immensely popular with seafarers. The proprietress had these huge photo albums full of pictures of sailors on shore leave stretching back 20-30 years.

It looks like it is all hotels and shopping centres there now...

Unless your a big session drinker price becomes irrelevant it’s the company the service the quality the glassware the ambiance the overall vibe. If you’re not looking for that just get a load of tins
