Put Braverman and family on the barge

They clearly rushed into this and she and her family should be put on the barge. Legionella's testing is pretty elementary. Now fire concerns. Anyone dealing with UK building regs and the associated fire authorities know what a mess this system is. Politics more important than human safety.

Nobody outside the government is prepared to resolve the illegal and dangerous issue of immigrants arriving here in small boats. The ECHR has already tried to stop the Rwanda option. The opposition parties are doing all they can to block any and all proposals to stop immigrants arriving illegally. Charities, NGOs, dodgy immigration lawyers, the House of Lords, the French government are all doing their best to keep the boats coming and keep the people drowning. Until some of these factions start pulling together, the arrivals, the deaths and the shambles that exist will continue unabated.

Human safety?
But I thought they are all fleeing war torn areas, famine, and persecution?

I notice that some enterprising bloke adverised the rooms on Booking.com. Twin bedded room with breakfast included for £80 per night. Swimming pool, gym and restaurant available. A BBC reporter managed to book a room but his payment hadn't been processed by the time it was taken off the website 😀

Don’t forget all meals included and free wifi also free transport in/out of Weymouth and free tickets for local events, also most rooms have sea views so makes that £80 look very reasonable to me.

They are not refugees but illegal immigrants. All in their twenties, openly filming themselves throwing their papers into the English Channel prior to being intercepted by the coastguard, and most probably are all criminals and hiding their pasts. The Floating hotel was fit enough to house honest decent workers so it is perfectly safe to house these men, prior to them being deported.

The obvious thing to do is speed up the processing rather than slash funding to make a political opportunity out of it. There wouldn't be a need if applications were dealt with instead of making the applicants wait in expensive accommodation not contributing to the economy.

It's a manufactured situation caused by a Government manipulating the system to try and make political capital from a divisive issue.

Hardly a manufactured situation when 485 crossed the channel at weekend. shall we have a permanent red carpet waiting for them and housing to chauffeur them to? The more appealing it appears, then the greater their numbers will be. These dinghies are filled with fighting aged men in their 20's and rarely is there a woman or child in sight. Anyone championing this threat to our security is betraying their families, neighbours and work colleagues.

The manufactured situation is the processing. Something like 95% get given leave to remain, at which point they can become contributing tax payers. The longer it takes, they are sat there in expensive accommodation at our expense.

There is no need. As always, follow the money. Much of the accommodation is supplied by friends and family of the Government, including the Bibby Stockholm and the quay it's tied up to. I'm sure there is fair and open competition...

No women and children in sight, yet every time one sinks there are women and children among the dead. Your perception is not supported by the facts.

And another fact to countermand the swamped allegation...

European context

  • In 2021, there were around 9 asylum applications for every 10,000 people living in the UK. Across the EU27 there were 14 asylum applications for every 10,000 people. The UK was therefore below the average among EU countries for asylum applications per head of population, ranking 16th among EU27 countries plus the UK on this measure.

Some people are against immigration, some aren't, they argue amongst themselves, the politicians win again,

We are a small island and also at the end of the trip.

I've no doubt the government will manipulate things to suit their agendas, but we also need to get a grip of what should be a basic thing for a country to control.

As for 'swamped', we'll there things called infrastructure, housing, hospitals, schools etc. They are under immense pressure, it's OK saying we need more, we need that anyway before immigration or factored in.

Look who's not paid for anything to the infrastructure as well for the last 13 years. They're under immense pressure which reduces public opposition to back door privatisation.

Obvious.

There's some handy lads that live in Weymouth and I can see it being a bit of a powder keg with the migrants, especially if they hang around or mess with the local ladies.

That's bloody cruel.

Why should these poor asylum seekers have to put up with Cruella farting in the next cabin?

Do you have no sense of decency?

We couldn't keep up with the infrastructure if we tried, nevermind the cost.

I'm no fan of any political party tbh and the tories havent been good in many aspects, however I think Labour are worrying in many other aspects.

People hate the Labour Council of Blackpool, I usually try and give them some credit for what they're trying to do, but they do love building more bloody car parks. 😌

True enough, but that'd be a quick way to raise revenue from an otherwise unoccupied site. It was ever thus.

I know things take time, but they need to speed up the big projects, the central drive redevelopment, tying in with Blackpool central, will be a massive boost... but not really the thread to go into too much discussion here.
