Keep hearing that we hadn't knocked out a top flight side since 76.
Were Man City not in the top flight then in the 80s when we beat them?

Amazing how time let's you forget. That felt like a really big scalp at the time .
When we lost to them a few years later in a replay I presume they were in the top flight then?
 
City had been relegated to the old 2nd division in 1983.

I believe Burnley were the last top division team we beat in the cup 1-0 in 1976 with a goal from Bill Bentley .

In 88, we lost 2-1 to them in a replay but they were still 2nd division.
