R.I.P. Lawrence (Benny) Goodman

Last of the surviving pilot of the Dambuster raids has died at the age of 100 in his later years he worked with Chelsea FC to combat racism and anti-semitism
Goodman was a 617 Squadron pilot who saw action in the attack on the Tirpitz. He also piloted Lancasters that dropped the earthquak bomb - the RAF's largest bomb (22,000 Lbs). He did not fly on the Dambusters raid. RIP.

RIP Benny Goodman thank you for your service. Saw a Lancaster bomber at RAF museum in Hendon in the company of a Germany lady who was a child in a village near Cologne during WW2. She remembered hearing the noise of the Lancasters as they flew over on bombing raids. The size of the Lancaster impressed me just the wheels of the plane were massive let alone the rest of it. Anyway a couple of years after the war the German lady saw an advert for nurses wanted in Britain and she decided to come over and she joined the NHS and gave many decades of service.

... Called the tall boy.... No other aircraft could carry such a weight.... Design by Barnes Wallis..
Not quite Excalibur. Tallboy was a 12,000lb bomb of a similar design. Both Tallboy and Earthquake were deep penetration bombs, designed to smash bunkers in places like the Heavy water, nuclear factories and those building V2/V3 missiles.
