Missed last nights episode but saw the opening one, really enjoyed the amateur one and was pleasantly surprised by the first episode and laughed out loud when the young girl (Bonni?) called Alex "the weatherman bloke" when they caught the same bus/boat! He seems a thoroughly unpleasant chap on first look.

This show really isn’t about the Celebrity. It’s all about family bonds and overcoming personal issues.
The “race” is almost an afterthought
 
Beresford seems ok compared to some they've had, he's clearly a bit OCD and out of his comfort zone but no meltdowns or tantrums.

The biggest surprise is how lovely Melanie Blatt seems. Billy's sister is frickin ace as well.

Maybe things like it’s a little staged? Last series the Scottish couple were talking about adopting/ ivf and just happened to get a lift from a trucker who had been adopted or the woman who drove and fed the odious father and daughter about 300 miles just because…?!?

No, that wasn't staged. If anything I was surprised how little is staged. When the teams arrived in Montreal and they couldn't get rooms because of the GP I was sceptical that that was planned but it wasn't and the supporting crew really struggled to get accomodation for themselves.

And yes, the father and daughter were odious. Luckily daughter's friend wasn't paired with them.

Skied in either Banff or Whistler for last 20 odd yrs, so when I saw the bit in Vancouver & then Banff on the last series, was loving it. Canada is one hell of a beautiful country .. great series, watched them all, have though certain bits were a bit contrived? but still great TV...

Just watched this week's and Alex was great, constantly cheerful and gets on really well with his Dad, even stopped racing with Billy and his sister as Billy was clearly struggling.

Literally have no idea what your issue is with him.

Changed my mind about him this week. Especially when he said they would finish together with Billy and his sister.
Just keep him away from reading the weather
