Real opportunity up front

Lavery gone, surely Kouassi out on loan, Beesley back to 4/5th option and I’d even let Joseph go and find his form elsewhere - we need a complete rebuild up top.

Need to find at least another 20 goals in the squad along with the 35 goals we’ll lose from players no longer here.

hopefully Joseph will come good.
Here's the thing for me with Joseph having seen most of our games since January, I genuinely can't think of one thing he did which blew me away. He is just there. Doesn't impose himself on games, goes anonymous a lot of the time and makes no impact as a sub. Genuinely can't see what he offers.

I think we can expect a lot more from Joseph next season if you go off the underlaying data.
He managed 2 goals and 8 assists in only 1616 minutes of pitch time, averaging an attack return every 1.8 games which would equate to 25 returns if he played a full season.
Although he only started 12 league games, he was awarded man of the match in two of them (good away win against Bristol and Peterborough), which is a very promising record.
He just needs to get some goals under his belt in preseason.
Two great assists from Joseph.

Some people see nowt.

At Oxford he played on the right of a front three. I think Critch is maybe confused or mistaken about what he is. He told Andy Bayes in pre season that he sees him as a number 9, a Jerry replacement. He's not a finisher like Jerry. Or as good as Jerry probably. But Jerry was a bit older when he became prolific, KJ is only 22 and needs a settled run in a position he suits. He did have a better season at Oxford, less injury affected, regular games, on the right of the attack. 10 goals.

Tbh I think we get obsessive sometimes about where players fit in. He is a forward and needs to fit into whatever formation is adopted. Critchley needs to be more flexible with his formations as well and come out of his 352 comfort zone where it's needed. If he can't or won't do that, Sadler will run out of patience. Similarly with players, if they can't adapt themselves slightly to different tactics dependent on whatever situation we are in, then there should be no place for them at the club. Agree though that we haven't seen the best of Joseph yet.

Yes fair comment. But if he's not an out and out goalscorer, then Critch needs to accept that and find people for that role. Like Rhodes, who came in cos Joseph got injured. And then got injured, leaving us with nobody.

I suggest you need a trip to Specsavers.
Did you not see him nick the ball in the Reading 6 yard box and tee up Dembele?

Did some good stuff at Bristol Rovers away but it is slim pickings when it comes to quality moments and positive contribution.
Im hoping we see a lot more from him next season.

If given a decent run of games we will. He needs to have a feeling that Critchley has faith in him and not bit parts here and there. The best is yet to come.

I know many will see me as deluded but I think with a fresh start, fresh players and a clearer vision of what we need next season that Joseph and for that matter Critchley will have a very different season next year. Recruitment is hugely important but I think Critchley will be a season wiser, the players will have a different side to fit in to and actually not relying on Dembele every game weirdly might help the rest of the team.
