Starting to become apparent what a good job has been done.

Some were clear from the off, CJ and Robson chiefly but we are starting to see some players really show what they are about, the likes of Yates and Dougall.

Think we'll see the likes of Ballard, Gretarsson, Garbutt and Anderson come to prominence over the coming weeks and months too.

Credit to Critchley for getting them to gel and creating an increasingly effective and attractive style of play.

We are looking like a well managed club in all departments. Long may it continue.

It was always apparent we were going to have a very good team, they simply needed to be set up in a system that complimented them and then afforded the time required for a group of young players to build an understanding.

I've been saying it for a while and I will keep saying it, this team will only get better.

We’ve got a brilliant core group now, all on long term deals.

Some tweaks and a few incomings/outgoings over then next couple of seasons and we’ll surely get promoted.

A couple more terrible performances and results and it could have turned terminal. A rethink, some fresh faces, a proper midfield engine room player and a great owner have enabled Critch to return to the happy, positive and capable head coachery we were all looking for. He’s been well backed and supported and is now delivering. We’re going up with Da Critch!

You are viewing and interpreting the whole thing from within your own head. It's different out here. In my head. 🤣

The spine is almost there.

Currently Maxwell will do for me

Marv is a different player from even 6 weeks ago.

Dougall maybe our best signing in the last ten years. He can partner with Williams, Robson or Ward and dominate any game.

Yates always showed promises but is now starting to deliver. Notably helped in a partnership with Madine.

I don’t think we should do much business this January, get Ballard to the summer and I’m not sure I’d do much else.

There are questionmarks over the longevity of some players, Madine Kai Kai and Husband come to mind. But generally these are the extra 10% sort of players.

They do invariably win you games, but for them to do their bits, you do need a spine, a solid base. Two to three months ago this seemed miles away and I had my eyebrow well and firmly raised.

But credit where it’s due. I think the base is there now bar one permanent centre back and a partner for Yates who’s realistically going to be with us for 2-3 years. That should be next summers major focus. The rest of the squad will take care of its self from there.

The future is bright.

I'd be looking for a striker.
Even though Madine isn’t the long term answer I’d stick with him until summer. He’s developed something with Yates and can score goals at this level.

Prices are higher in January and it risks upsetting the Apple cart unnecessarily.

Unless we can find a youngster capable of coming in on loan and competing, I doubt we'll see much movement due to the salary cap restraints. Maybe moving on Thorniley & Howe will help.
I would 100% pursue someone from the Premier League though, we still have a hell of a lot of games left to play.
Imagine another player or 2 of a similar standard to Ballard coming in.

We don't have many options, no back up for Madine, I'd be looking at least. We got some excellent loans last January. It could make all the difference.

Agree with a lot of what you said there @Rektseasider.

I'd be looking for a striker.

Imagine if we could find someone who had the impact DJ had in the Prem promotion season. I remember arguing against needing a nippy striker, and that the target man (Burgess at the time) was the right profile, whilst you argued for the profile we eventually got in DJ.

I shan't make that mistake again! Think with the build up and style of play we are dwveloping now, it would work alongside either Jerry or Madine.

I do understand that. But I think Anderson has proved tonight he could play up front if needed. Maybe he is the striker to partner Yates we need, and we already have him.

Again personally I would move away from a tonne of loans. I think we already have too many with three.

Yes if Anderson and Woodburn can fill the gap, and they might, then all well and good, I'd be happy to stick. But neither has a track record yet of getting many goals. I don't think 4 loans is a lot.

I just would prefer to have players we own, I think the club follow this train of thought also. Well all three have barely had any game time so far I can see the point of Ballard I’m struggling to get the point to the Kemp and Woodburn really.

I think Woodburn might well come good and I suspect Kemp was cheap and he is getting better and offers us something from the bench. Of course it is good to own the players but would you say no to Dewsbury-Hall returning, someone of his ilk, on loan? If we could get someone up front of that level it would give us a hell of a boost for the second half of the season. And if not, sign a back up player on a contract, we are an attractive proposition now. We are playing really well now but still struggling to get the goals our dominance warrants. It could be the difference.

I actually would say no to a promising Premier League youngster atm. KDH as well as Ronan were unknown to us at the time but luckily they were half decent. No guarantees that would happen again, I point to Kemp and Woodburn on this one. Both have yet to impress me yet, not that there bad players but just my point they’re not getting game time

But more importantly they’ll take game time away from Ward, Anderson or more importantly Robson or possibly Virtue who could be vital assets to us in the years to come.

Kemp is a good impact sub and scores goals. Woodburn however is a waste of space so far.
Not sure why we’d use a loan space on an impact sub. For instance and I don’t actually think this is the case but, for every time he comes on Bez or Shaw et al could have got a turn out, scoring a goal or two picking up form and confidence.

Woodburn hasn't been available much yet. If he gets a run he'll look better.

I'd rather get promoted with a loan player up front than miss out without one.

Kemp doesn't count in the squad cos of his age and I doubt we have paid much of his wages. Free hit. Useful to have.

Again the danger of a loan player. If he’s not available what’s the point at least with someone like Virtue he’s got a few more years with us and can come back and succeed for us.

Of course I’d rather get promoted with a loan player than miss out without one, but that’s not really my point.

Virtue isn't a striker.

Virtue isn't a striker.
Sorry I didnt make my self clear, the danger with loan players is if they do get niggles or loss of form they only have 6 or 12 months with us.

Where as on the flip side Virtue for example has been injured for a while now, but at least he has the benefit for us, of a fair few years ahead of him with the club to progress us as well as himself.

I must admit I was one that thought the recruitment was a bit of a scattergun approach and perhaps we could have retained some we have let go on loans/permanents. It seems the board/staff knew exactly what they were doing and the players just take time to bed in and gel with each other which I thought might take a couple of months. Furthermore I don't think many of the players we have let go are pulling up any trees anywhere so it seems like the right decisions were made. I would have liked to have seen a big commanding goalkeeper, right back and pacey goalscorer up front but that is just being very picky. Maybe these are positions that will be looked at in January. We're not the finished article by any means but these are very encouraging signs.

Yes they pretty much do know what they are doing and have had a lot of criticism nonetheless on the interwebs. And I don't see them resting on their laurels at all, if they can strengthen the squad in January I think they will. One way or another.
