Redundant squad players

With the selections so far this season
Thorniley and Teddy Howe have no future. If finances allow Is it worth dropping them from the squad to free up places. Still need another striker in my opinion

I think the squad will be set in stone until the January window. If we do have a space (and I don't think we do) it could only be filled with an out of contract player.

With so many games in quick succession, best described as thick and fast, any of the players currently out of the picture could find themselves on the bench should injuries or even more suspensions occur.

Very true. I'm expecting to see Thorniley, Howe and Antwi on the pitch before the end of the season. Thorniley was warming up late on during the Burton game looking as if he expected to come on.

I've not given up on Howe or Thorniley yet. Both young (22 and 23 respectively) and on two and half year contracts.
They came in as just as the Grayson wheels fell off and were probably unfairly seen to be part of the problem.
Neither have had much of a look in so far but the last time I saw them play they both looked ok, especially Howe who had a decent game and made some good runs forward.

Do you think Howe and Gabriel are similar in that they're good offensively but poor defensively? Thorniley's lack of pace goes against him at lcb and lb.

I haven't seen anywhere near enough of Howe or Thorniley to form a definitive opinion so I wouldn't write them off is all I am saying.
Gabriel is another we have only seen twice..I thought he looked very decent in his first game against Accrington (?) but then he had that first half mare against Ipswich.

There isn t such a thing as a redundant squad player those on the fringes of the first team will be needed to cover injuries, and suspensions and play in some of the less important cup games. The idea of bringing in a coach like NC was that he could improve players who had been left out in the cold by Grayson.

The fact that Turton and Husband both playing out of position were preferred to Thorniley. Followed by 2 players being given their debuts, makes him redundant in my eyes and if we need another striker take Thorniley out of the squad.

I quite liked Teddy Howe from what I saw of him. Certainly not the worst player we've had in a Blackpool shirt ...
