Reece James

We might as well keep him. Clearly did a good job for them at that level and enables us to focus on other key positions

If anyone had been transfered temporarily to a different team at work, one where Ithey'd been given a bigger role, done really well, could achieve a promotion and pay rise, I'm pretty sure most would be saying the same things to make it happen. Put a fair fee on his head and let him get the move, then both clubs and player are happy. I've nothing against him as a player but I'd rather have the funds for someone who is 100% committed to Blackpool.

They think he can play at a level which our left backs abjectly failed. He is probably not on a fortune, having signed from Doncaster. What is there not to like? Welcome back.

I honestly think both Husband and Thompson are better than James. Husband has already proved it and I think Thompson will do now the coaching is back in safe defensive hands. He's only 22. James is 30 in November.

Husband gets a load of fan credits for being ‘honest’, ‘hard working’, ‘straight forward’… he’s bang average though.

I think you under estimate him. I'd say he's a manager's player. A lot of players drift through football clubs and only a few really stick and do a consistent professional job week in week out. Husband and Dougall were key players in us being promoted and in staying up.

The phrase 'bang average' is a bit of a red flag to me tbh.

‘Red flag’? For what?? My point was some players got a status almost above their ability; Jim is one. He’s fine, but he’s not what people make him to be.

I hope you are right with Thompson and he does have some good attributes but his lapses in concentration and poor positional skills will take a lot to rectify..I think the More charl Appleton quote that “this is a brilliant signing and this lad will make the club an awful lot of money when he is sold” is a long way away from fruition. Let’s hope Critchley can iron out the kinks because Andy Lyon’s is better at both left and right back.

I hope I'm right too.

Unfortunately I do remember you being happy to only sign a couple of players last season and when I said we needed 10 in to stay up you were very sceptical...this time we definitely need a minimum of 7 new faces in my opinion and they must all be ready for the first team. We still have a quality issue with some of the players we have kept and I hope one or two only got new deals to sell on.

I think Thompson has suffered from two coaches who had the team completely disorganised at times, and not only that but mostly couldn't keep hold of the ball for more than 5 seconds. Consequently we were continually under pressure and often overrun. Let's be honest, it didn't really matter who played at full back for us last season, we shipped goals for fun and ended the season with the league's worst defence.

If Brentford saw something in him to sign him, with their recent track record, then I think we should give him a chance. In a more all round defensively solid set up he may do well. I think we're far too quick to dismiss young players who are playing regularly in a higher league for the first time. Not many of our players came out with much credit last season, and our managers certainly didn't. I don't think judging any player during a period in which we've had four different manager in 12 months - all with completely different styles and ideas - is fair.

As for James, if Sheff Weds want him then I doubt we'll stand in his way. I think he's decent, but we already have cover for his position and we can probably spend his wages better on another area of the team.

Including loans, plus Bridcutt and Ward, but excluding development squad players, we signed 9 in the "summer" and a further six in January.

Its a bang average way to describe a player. IMO.

A couple? No i didnt say two. I wanted new midfield and forward players. But the manager appointments were the reason we got relegated.

We need around 8 or 9 players this year.

To me, he's already moved on and no point in keeping a player who clearly doesn't want to be here.
Sooner fleece the Wendies for all we can and then buy someone who wants to be here.

Update (would we get a fee for him?)

Ex-Sunderland defender Reece James could well be back on his way to Sheffield Wednesday, according to reports,

The 29-year-old joined the Owls in League One on loan from Blackpool during last summer's window and made 34 appearances in all competitions as Darren Moore qualified for the play-offs.
