Relaxed Christmas rules

People have lost the plot in this country. Another 600+ deaths today. An EasyJet 737 holds 130 passengers. Imagine if 5 EasyJet planes kept crashing and killing all its passengers every day in the UK. Would you put all your family together on one of their flights just to celebrate Christmas?
It's the way data is gathered that makes you think thousands are dying like Jumbo jets are crashing but the reality is the stats are just recording people who were already dying. How many excess deaths have there been? The graphs show the pandemic ended in May. I'm not saying no-one is succumbing to the virus but not enough to justify the restrictions. People die of all sorts of crap every year and they aren't tallied in this way.

I had to have a test today, coughing for a couple of days now but no other real symptoms and almost certain it will be a negative outcome.
Anyway the guy at the walk through centre at Yeadon Way said they had been really quiet up until this week 🥴 not a great sign.
On a more positive note as having to swab yourself there he said I was a natural 😆
Finally I have found my niche in life, tickling my own tonsils with a cotton bud 👏👏

The pandemic ended in May ?!?
That is a lie. It will end when the vaccination programme has rolled out. It will need about two-thirds of people to be jabbed to suppress it. Even at a million people a week (if we can do that, I have some doubt) that will take more than 9 months. And at least a full year for all of us. Let’s hope the spring and summer helps.

I accept you may have a point. Whether there is an actual “pandemic” currently or not may depend upon the perception of the individual as much as anything. An 80-yo with underlying health conditions would no doubt think so, while that categorisation could be irrelevant to a fit 19-yo.

The point about a pandemic is it covers a large part if not the whole world, something that I don't think is in dispute in this case.

You couldn’t make up what we’ve seen today
Widespread movement into Tier 3, huge increase in infections rates and yet the Govt abrogate all responsibility for the Xmas relaxation rules they have created - it’s now all up to the individual !
You don’t govern the country and earn respect by worrying about what The Sun or The Daily Mail might put on the front page Boris

That language reads like it was written by Labour HQ.

Also note that BMJ and HSJ have the same editor.
That Good?! Are you equally impressed?
It might not if the same people meet over the five days

We all however know what will actually happen - different groups on different days
Hmm, I hadn't thought of the idea of people mixing in different groups over the five days. Maybe I'm being naive. I hope they don't.

The tree and tinsel are out of the box. The xmas tunes have playing on radios and in shops. Santa is ho, ho-ing and wishing everyone Happy Christmas. TV soaps are reflecting the season etc.
So it is a bit late to cancel the celebrations.
It’s a good job Jesus wasn’t born today. Three wise men wouldn’t have been able to travel because of the tier system.... And one or all of them maybe had to self isolate.
The Inn would have been closed and the stable out of bounds.
And Angel Gabriel would have been out of a job.

The people who engage in that kind of behaviour would do it regardless. The overwhelming majority of people will not be doing that.

You can see it now

‘ Sorry PC Smith I genuinely thought I could mix with three households at any one time

The rules are so confusing ‘

So far I haven’t spoken to a single person who has any intention of meeting different people on different days. In fact most intend to just have a low key dinner and keep things to a minimum.

Possibly... I think we’ll see another full lockdown in the New Year... with fairly severe restrictions until spring, but that was always likely to be the case until the vaccine takes hold.

When you read these type of threads anyone would thing the over 65 are as thick as pig shit and unable to make a decision to celebrate Christmas or not.
Everyone I've spoken to the last week are playing it safe and keeping contact to a minimum and don't need any guidelines until they have been vaccinated.

If I was in an at risk group I’d stay in and not give to shits about Xmas tbh...
Also regarding “ lockdown”..is it really a lockdown.....I could go to asda in a minute, get a kebab on way back, early night...get up and go buy some materials at a builders/diy shop, then nip to a cafe for breakfast on way to getting my hair cut, just before lunch at the garden center etc.etc etc....hardly martial law is it...😎

The police really won’t be bothered in policing the rules. It’s clearly a massive waste of their time and resources.
Ive said all along that a better, and more socially and psychologically aware approach has been needed. One that understands that there’s only so much you can do and that trying to contain the beast within is only going to rile it further when it escapes.

As x3 says, those who are going to ignore, will ignore.

The cops won't act unless some idiots have massive noisy parties & are alerted by others. Dinner outside anyone.
