Right Back - Dujon Sterling - on Twitter

If true sounds very promising. Chelsea clearly think very highly of him. Also see it was down to Critch if he does sign. He is the best coach to develop him and will be th reason why we will get very promising young players

Seems more or less certain . Looks big and powerful , had some injury problems last year but says has impressed Thomas Tuchel in training.

Sounds good...

Read the last paragraph below if you can't be arsed to read the lot.

"there are several who are hovering right on the fringes of the first team, with perhaps an actual chance of earning a first-team spot in preseason. One of those is Dujon Sterling — or at least I’d like to believe that he is one of them — who’s battled his way back from a major injury to remind us all that not so long ago, he was rated ahead of and higher than Reece James, even. Still just 21, Sterling (no relation to Manchester City’s Raheem) burst onto the scene back in 2017, making two senior appearances for Antonio Conte’s Chelsea as a 17-year-old, and being seen as a potential successor to Victor Moses, combining superior technical and physical attributes in a dynamic right wing-back position. With Thomas Tuchel utilizing a similar 3-4-3 structure, Sterling could prove useful indeed."

*******

"Dujon Sterling has been the standout player during Chelsea’s preseason training thus far, according to numerous reports. He’s had more time with Tuchel than most other youngsters, seeing as he’s been training with the first team for a few months now while he recovered with the U23s. Sterling is now negotiating a contract extension with the Blues as his current deal is set to expire at the end of the upcoming campaign. The club will also look to buck the recent trend of talented prospects departing for greener pastures. Luckily, the club wants Sterling and Sterling wants to remain in SW6.

"Back at full fitness, the 21-year-old will try to make the first team squad for the first time since September 2017 when he was given his debut. Sterling spent two years on loan (2018/19 at Coventry City and 2019/20 at Wigan Athletic) following his senior debut against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. A change of manager, a hamstring injury and an unknown illness that sidelined him for a long period of time have seen the hype around him dwindle a bit, but now it seems to be building back up.

"Conte was the first manager to take a chance on Sterling, who he held in high regard. It seems only right that the next Chelsea boss to try his hand at the 3-4-3 gives Sterling his long-awaited opportunity. After missing out on Achraf Hakimi, nothing new on the Adama Traore front and Tino Livramento set to depart, it seems as if the right wingback spot could be Sterling’s for the taking. He presents a low-risk, high-reward option that also allows Marina Granovskaia to use those funds elsewhere.

"Tuchel’s tactical switch, where he moved Reece James to right centerback, indicated he wanted more attacking options on the outside of defense. Sterling gives the German gaffer that versatility in the same way Moses did for Conte. The wingback possesses blistering pace that neither Cesar Azpilicueta or James can claim. He is also incredibly strong and has a great eye for goal, giving Tuchel another creative option across the pitch.

Hmmm, doesn’t sound like he wants to go out on loan, sounds like he might be in with a chance of making the first team squad. Hope we do get him, he looks damn good.

The two articles I took the above from were dated June/July. It sounds like Tuchel is now defining his 25 man squad and Sterling hasn't quite made the cut. It sounds like this is a done deal. He does look really good, very quick, very strong, good technique. He's excellent going forward, Bowler might have to get out of his way! 🤣

Our left side is going to need bolstering I think!

I have spoken to several Chelsea fans all ST holders long term and though they have herd of him he’s never been any where near their first eleven so Tommy Hutchison this lad ain’t

I wish him well should he be travelling up the M6 today
