I had absolutely no problem when you left and was delighted on your return buat after 180 mins of watching that ive witnessed only 20 mins of football worth watching. Tonight was turgid, safe, dog shite football, with no intention of winning the game but merely to stop the opposition scoring.
We should never be starting a game with 5 at the back when Barnsley managed to put 7 past them only 10 days ago. Like the Burton game which should have been a cricket score, you went safe and going safe creates panic and creates mistake. You have not got the personel to play tippy tappy football at the back. Marving goes from looking like Premier league to Sunday morning player in the space of 2 mins when you take the tempo out of the game and pass back instead of going forward, all in the name of "retaining posession". Its bollux we cant do it.
For fcks sake decide on what CJ is? Hes either a winger and a goal threat or a sub, nothing else. If hes playing at least feed him the ball. He looks like a startled rabbit half the time and a player lacking confidence which is not good so early in the season.
Someone said to me before the season started, prepare for lots of draws and scrappy 1-0 wins and I had no idea but Im feeling cheated already as a fan for the rubbish Im watching. You need to get your act together or the stands will be half empty come Xmas. Those last 2 home games were painful to watch.

Fair comment that.

Don’t look up what formation Barnsley played when they put 7 past Port Vale or you’ll have a heart attack.

I don't think its to do with wanting to retain possession, that's a good thing and also that can be exciting. It's to do with tempo, we are so fcuking slow to move the ball. Our midfielders all leg it wide and leave nobody in the middle to pass to.

Did you watch Port Vale put 10 behind the ball and be delighted with the point they came for?

My grievance tonight was with the idiots around me booing after 7 minutes of the game. Tonight's villain, as always, was CJ who they demanded be brought off after 15 minutes. No realisation at any stage thst he was playing wing back, and when he got back and defended well, he was slagged for not turning in the area and beating two men.

The same so called supporters can be summed up with the following dialogue:

Backpass, backpass, stop that and get it forward!
(Ball goes forward towards Lavery)
Why have you done that?

Now we've played better, but at least you can see what they're trying to do, but were too ponderous about it in possession in the first half. Lavery wasn't helped by not having a natural striker alongside him either.

But, its early in the season and we're still settling into a formation and getting to know each other and thst could be seen with some forward passes that went into good areas but the run wasn't made. We haven't looked particularly like conceding in four games, and that gives us a great platform to build on.

To boo at half time, full time and during the game is counter productive and not what the team deserve or need.

For what it's worth, I thought CJ was one of our better players, but small minds are already made up and wilfully ignore any positives.

Your last paragraph says it all

Jesus fuckin Christ you’ve got to be joking.

He did a great tackle back 1st half but the 2nd half he was horrific offensively. As bad as bad can be.

Made up.your mind, have you? He put in a number of decent crosses. We never looked like winning anything in the area all night. That's not his fault.

Agreed about JH. He constantly provided an overlap on the left and got a lot of crosses in.

However my Mom would be Casey, very solid performance and fully deserves his place. I was a bit surprised when Morgan was given mom.
They must have used the dartboard method to pick MOTM 😬

That was crap
Vale went closer to winning
Ponderous, slow, predictable
Plaudits when they do ok but brickbats are deserved after that.
2 and a half league games since we scored, and we could have played for several hours and not scored

Sums up my thoughts tbf 👍. The overreaction on here is all too predictable. Note to self... if we don't win ignore AVFTT for at least 3 days... I forget every ** season 🤪

I thought CJ defended well and it certainly wasnt the worst game he has had for us. Carey was completely anonymous and needs to sit out for a while. Dougall was dreadful first half and only marginally better second half. Beesley is NOT the answer...it was bordering on criminal to not make a change until the 62nd minute(the Critchley way).

A few positives were Norburn, (again and where would we be without him ) Casey and Husband. The fact we dont look like conceding many is also a positive but we are a very tough watch and need a ball playing centre half to grasp the nettle.

Not a time for bed wetting yet but Saturday is a game we really need to win or you get the feeling its going to be a long hard season.

Personally I think we are still 3/4 players short and that is disappointing. We need a specialist left wing back NOW if Thompson isnt good enough. That way Lyons can go back to right wing back. We need a ball playing centre half and finally we need one or maybe even two strikers. As I said to Wizaard at half time what would you give for a Tony Cunningham style forward right now. (For those not old enough to remember him he was fast strong and very direct...a brute of a player.)

Neil Critchley will make us hard to beat, he might get us to the playoffs, he will not have us playing attacking entertaining football. Its not his way, prepare for a season of boring football. He's said in his post match interview, he's happy with the performance.

I tried really hard to 'get' CJ. Seems a really good bloke but he was fed & supported in that second half but he's an embarrassment. The only thing in his defence is this shit of playing wing backs on their weaker foot. The longer the half went on the more frustrating he became. His crossing & decision making beggars belief.

Apart from one cross across the face of goal when were they closer to winning. Grimshaw won't need to wash his kit. Absolute spectator .

I never thought I'd see @Wizzard so veciferous in his defence of a Right Winger......

They were awful but we need to find a way to beat teams coming here for a nil nil..Critchley needed to make changes before 62 mins as Dougall and Carey were missing in action. That and we need to play players in their best positions.

I agree with this but would add that I don't think Lyons and Hamilton are at their best when not playing on their natural side.
Would also say that maybe watching us under Critchley is a bit like an audience turning up expecting to see Roy Chubby Brown but finding themselves sitting through a Chekhov play!
Doesn't mean it's bad but it's not their sort of thing......unless we win!

I'm not saying we were any good. We weren't, but it's something to build on, another clean sheet and unbeaten.
