Right then, how we going to do?

We have a squad full of players with championship experience, and have a lot of money to spend (by league one standards) following Yates sale. Add in the fact that both clubs that got relegated with us have had off field problems - one with a points deduction. So let's be honest, it will be a big failure by us if we don't go back up. Top 6 should be the minimum target, but top 2 should be the aim.
We need to start aiming higher.

The squad as it stands lacks a cutting edge in the final third imo. We'll keep the clean sheets necessary to consistently avoid defeat, but we won't get the goals to consistently win without further additions. We need to adequately replace Yates and Anderson, and failure to do so would be very poor. It can't have been a surprise to the club that neither would be here this season.
As part of the embargo, Reading can't offer more than £1,400 a week to anyone coming in for the next three transfer windows. That will curtail the range of player they can get in.

Promotion has to be the aim and anything less is failure

Fans hoping for top half are pathetic
The squad were relegated and if Wigan hadn’t had a 6 point deduction it would have been as the basement club. The teams in L1 that finished in the top 10 will be going for it. Can the players that failed in the Championship turn it around???

I honestly think the only things stopping us this season are potential injuries and ourselves.

I still think we a bit short and hope we don’t get too many injuries or suspensions..if we had another 4 or 5 quality players in then I would be looking at automatic but as it stands somewhere between 5th and 12th..anything above that is very good ..anything below that is truly awful as this looks a very weak league
Think we are short on buying Hope we don’t revert to too many loans. Would rather see 2-3 good loans than the 7-8 last season

Yes i agree but Sadler will tough it out i think. And would be right to IMO. You cant sack a manager because of a bad start. Changing manager several times a season doesnt work.
Well it doesn't work when you appoint the wrong manager in the first place then replace them far too late in the season with the equivalent of Mike Bassett 🤦
Only when Dobbie took over for the final 6 matches did we start playing anything like.

Different this season.

This rather loud Blackburn fan has predicted that we will finish 3rd. Fair play to him he’s done some research, but can’t see the likes of Charlton, Oxford, Portsmouth finishing as low as he says.

Worth a watch on a very quiet volume, if not just skip to the end :)

Our fortunes hang in the balance at the minute, we need another big ugly striker to partner Lavery and Joseph - Beesley is nowhere near the required standard. Could do with some defensive cover and quality out wide too. Banks and Feeney could be what we’re looking for for the last two but a better target man is an absolute must. A few more quality signings and I’ll start believing, as of right now I’d put us around 8th/9th

Realistic, unless better creativity and finishing arrive.

But your username looks incongruous.
I used to wear tangerine tinted glasses but my vision is a little more realistic these days. I would love to see us succeed but too many years in this gawdforesaken league has left me with a pessimistic outlook: mid-table is a possibility with the present squad.

100% we need a top centre forward, but we have been saying that for a while.

I look at our squad and think all the likely starters would be playing at another L1 club, some at a higher level. So, we have a great base to work from, but we’d definitely benefit from another 2 quality signings at this point.

There is no reason why we should not be pursuing automatic promotion, so we do need to have some scope to boost the squad again in January. I’m sure SS will have that in mind and that he’ll look to spend if we are there at NY.

Too many frustrating draws prior to Christmas. Then everything slots into place and we cause carnage from January onwards. 4th 👍

Right now we’d probably finish 4th/5th with the squad we have.

Bring in 3 more players of quality before the window shuts and we’ll go up automatically.

League 1 is a tough division that should be respected, but is very manageable, remember we finished 10th in the last year of the O’s when there was no investment.

The nucleus of the squad is Championship caliber (Marvin, Grimmy, Norburn, Dougall, Lyons, Lavery) so if we get some others who aren’t quite Championship yet, but could be (Joseph, Carey, Thompson, Morgan, Pennington) to step up, we will very easily make Playoffs at worst.

I trust this manager and recruitment team wholeheartedly to make the right decisions. Just need a few more cherries on top of the squad and then we’re laughing.

Great season ahead.

Calibre. If you want to come on here.... 😉

I just hope we get off to a decent start, if not the gnashing and wailing about Critchleys reurn will be unbearable

As well as the Critchley factor, I reckon we need a decent start, 'cos there's a particularly nasty run of away matches in October / early November -
Barnsley - Charlton - Oxford - Noblot - Portsmouth

We normally do well in October, in fact last October was the only decent month we had!

I’m usually hopeful before the season starts, with the exception of last season. Just maybe we can shake off the playoffs & get an automatic this year. But if it’s shit on Saturday & we get beaten I’ll be reading the fallout from Wales in the caravan. I doubt if we’re fully prepared yet but that will also apply to the opposition, so let’s get off to a flyer with a win however scrappy. I’ll be over the moon if we actually batter them though.

Id reckon a 0-0 draw will still feel better than a caravan in Wales 😉

Still 3/4 players short of a side that can really give it a good go.
Let's see where we are and who else we've brought in by the end of August and then I'll give my thoughts.

Tongue in cheek of course. There's no such thing as a bad holiday. Enjoy it 👍
I realised you were only messing. Over 3 1/2 hours to Betws-y-coed only the last 15 miles was pleasant after leaving the A55. Phil of Prestatyn deserves a medal if today is anything to go by. 😂

Phil is from Blackpool as you well know

But yeah the A55 is wank, Betws is lovely though and well worth the trip
