Right then Mick

Another big one tomorrow

A win is vitality important, if Rotherham beat us they go 8 points clear of us

So please please please give us the best chance of winning the game, we need to create chances and score goals

Poveda and Bowler starting are a must

Don't be a Dick ....
Don't disagree here Phil, but to get the best base for them to work from, who else you playing?

Back 4

Dougal, Patino and Trybull as a midfield 3

Bowler, Poveda and Yates upfront

Simple....
Not that there's loads of options but I think playing Patino, Poveda and Bowler is one too many given you lose too much defensive cover, which our defenders can't cope with.

Real issue - as you know - is a squad full of randoms that don't suit any particular style.

Agree with the OP

Would prefer a 4231 though with Trybull and Dougall/ Patino sitting behind Bowler, Poveda and Rodgers with JY up top.

Sadly, this won't happen. But one thing's for sure, we MUST win.

Our squad is screaming 4-2-3-1 as I've been banging on about for yonks.

GK and back 4, keeper either is fine and back 4 according to injury/suspension.

Patino/Dougal, Trybull in def mid.
Bowler, Poveda, Rogers/CJ
Yates.

It's not bloody rocket science that is our best team.

There's no d in Rogers folks.

There's obviously a Poveda problem. I'm not sure we'll see him starting unless the problem has been resolved.

Are we putting Yates on the left?

Mick McCarthy discusses the role of Nottingham Forest loanee Josh Bowler in his Blackpool side

Mick McCarthy has told his Blackpool players – but especially the ‘maverick’ forwards – that they must all roll their sleeves up and buy into his team structure.
It comes amid an ongoing debate about Josh Bowler, who was benched on Tuesday night having struggled to make an impact in central midfield during McCarthy’s first two games in charge.

The winger reacted in the best way possible by scoring Blackpool’s dramatic 90th-minute equaliser as the Seasiders salvaged a 2-2 draw with 10 men.
While McCarthy is a big admirer of Bowler’s ability, he says all players must do the ugly side of the game before they “sprinkle their magic”.
“What does ‘maverick’ suggest? I’d like to think players are part of a team, part of a shape, part of a structure that you have and they work just as hard as everybody else,” he said.

“What does ‘maverick’ suggest? I’d like to think players are part of a team, part of a shape, part of a structure that you have and they work just as hard as everybody else,” he said.

“It certainly doesn’t happen when you’re second bottom in the league, because you’ve got to have a structure and a shape and a system you play in and then it’s brilliant when you’ve got good players who do the bits he can.

“Josh has the physical capabilities to do it and he’s showing that. The little bits he can do that others can’t, that’s what we’re relying on.”
When asked if Ian Poveda also falls under the same umbrella, McCarthy added: “It goes for all of them, each and every one of them.
“One cog in the wheel that doesn’t do it properly, doesn’t do it professionally – and I’m not accusing anyone of not doing that – but you need everybody, especially when you’re second bottom in the league. You need them all.
“The really good players, the talented players, we need them all to buy into what we’re trying to do. Get back, defend and then be the heroes, score the goals and all of the lads with the broken noses and the cut legs and all that all benefit from it.

Got to say I agree, we have to win games to get out of this mess. As much as Tuesday was a lift, continued draws simply won't cut it.
Rotherham are actually in good nick in the last few weeks, slightly surprising as I thought they'd nose dive after Warne left.
We have to go at them tomorrow.

My choice would be:

Maxwell

Lyons Connolly Thorniley Hubby

Trybull Patino

Poveda

Bowler Yates Rogers or CJ

MM will pick

Maxwell

Lyons Connolly Nelson Hubby

Trybull Patino Dougall

Lavery Yates CJ

Who you having in the centre of defence?Nelson and Thorniley or Nelson and Connolly?I assume everyone agreed Hubby and Lyon’s full backs.

What i want to see tomorrow

Grimshaw
Lyons Nelson Thornily Husband
Trybull Dougall
Poveda
Bowler Yates Rogers

What we will probably see......

Maxwell
Connolly Nelson Husband
Lyons Hamilton
Trybull Dougall
Carey
Yates Lavery

Lyons Hamilton obviously wing backs!

I think it might be the latter in a 5-3-2 but Rogers for Lavery. Losing the height of Goode & Madine will be a big blow at both ends of the pitch.

Patino has demonstrated all season long he's not a defensive midfielder.

A lot of us want the same but I’m not sure we’ll see Poveda and Bowler in the same side. Something is up with Poveda and it’s not just Mick because he had his issues with Apples too, unless he’s been injured and I’ve missed it?

If no Poveda I’d like to see Patino as a 10. Rogers or CJ depends on Rogers’ fitness, if he can do 60 I’d play him and have CJ’s pace for the last 30.

Have you seen how Bowlers equaliser came about on Tuesday, great play by Rogers and Husband.
Yeah I saw it. Ive also seen him in a couple of other games where his contribution has been limited to say the least. Still got a lot to prove. But also don't disagree with whoever noted that CJ offers little at this level.

What is also want to happen tomorrow....!!! 🤣

  • 14:50 BFC speed pint
  • 20 minutes of dour football - Rotherham score
  • 21 minutes - TRIPLE CHANGE. Trybull, Hamilton and Carey OFF, Rogers, Bowler, Poveda ON
  • Batter Rotherham for the rest of the first half
  • 48 minutes - Yates bicycle kick - 1-1
  • Continue to batter them
  • Rotherham. Dirty. Slow the game down, giving the front four an absolute kicking. Bowler is a different animal though - Messi 2011/12
  • The benches are getting into it too. Big Mick sent to the stands for a shove on the 4th official
  • Rotherham fan throws flare into the South - kicks off in the corner
  • The lads are right up for it. Some noise now.
  • 82 minutes. Bowler picks it up from Grimshaw (Maxwell felt something in his hamstring in the warm up) in the 6 yard box. Beats everyone. Goal. Chisnall is sobbing, never seen anything like it. Bowler rips his shirt off - Blackpool till i die tattooed on his chest - gestures that hes signing for us on a perm to the North
  • 84 and 89, Yates completes his hat trick
JOB DONE!!!

Swap Nelson for Thorniley and I reckon you're spot on. Poveda vs Patino is a decision. No starting place for Carey or CJ for me.
Nelson was crap on Tuesday just hoofs everything.Throniley probably been one of our most consistent players this season shouldn't of been dropped anyway.

Also. Is Bowler match fit to start? Rogers didn’t look that fit to me against, Hudders. Trudging back to the centre like he just done a Marathon not once but after both goals.
At least MM hasn’t got the worry of having to pick Madine.

I personally think Patino hasn't offered nearly enough in the last 5-6 games. I'd be tempted to play Poveda in the 10 role and have Rogers out wide. It's striking the right balance between flair and steel in that midfield I think.

In my opinion we should look to impress our own game on them, by playing our best attackers, rather than setting up to worry about them. When we play like the latter we seldom play well.

Agree with all of that except taking Trybull. We need solidity in midfield = Trybull + Dougall.

Ffs

McCarthy now seems to refer to Bowler and maybe others as mavericks. Both previous managers seemed ready to find a system that would work and allow Bowler to do his stuff at the same time. Can he hack that ?

Can someone let Mick know it’s 2023 not Italia 90.
