RIP Bernard Pickard

Just read about Bernard in the Gazette tonight announcing his funeral on Friday 22nd March, at Carleton at 2pm. Prior to that at 1pm, the cortege will visit the Lifeboat station on the prom.

What a lovely bloke Bernard was. Got to know him well as he always used to be on the train to away games with his mate Tony from Barrow in the 80's. He was always laughing and joking and making people feel good around him.

As the train pulled up at Blackpool North in the evening after an away game, he'd be there switching on his pager to be back on call for the Lifeboat.

RIP Bernard. Top Blackpool fan, a genuine gentleman and a great positive human being.

Nice words mate about Bernard !
We’ve had a few words with each other on here from time to time I think 🤣
I don’t know if you remember me but me and my dad were friends with Bernard and Tony and stood together and went away with Pool thought the 80’s
He was a great guy and both him and Tony saved me as a young daft lad from trouble away from home on many occasions, Newport especially 🙏
I haven’t seen them at games for years, do you know if Tony is still alive and kicking?

I'd probably remember your faces on a picture from back then as regular away fans who went by train were a relatively small band who were familiar to each other. Travelling by train wasn't always plain sailing in the days of football hooliganism with no maps or Internet on your mobile to help you find the ground - pick the wrong local to ask directions and you could be in deep trouble!!! 🤕

Not seen Tony for many years but it wasn't so long ago that I last saw Bernard coming down the stairs of the family stand on his walking stick after the crowd had mostly dispersed, big beaming smile as we had won that day.
