RIP Fred Davies

Am I right in saying that he was effectively in charge in the latter half of the 79/80 season before Alan ball could be freed from his playing contract somehwere? If so, he successfully kept us up during a relegation battle. RIP Fred.

You'll be thinking of Freddie Scott (who I think was General Manager).

I always thought it was Ted MacDougal who “managed” the team, even though Bally was manager he was still a player for Southampton but Ted Mac was able to leave Bournemouth to be at Blackpool, to both coach and play, toward the back end of that 79/80 season. As I recall we played some decent football which unfortunately went downhill when Bally took over full time!

You could be right, but that season I seem to recall Fred being the experienced coach with significant influence. Although everyone slagged off Ted, it seems to be more than coincidental that our form went downhill in the following season after he left.
