This won't be a name that is familiar to many, but Ian was the Independent Supporter Liaison Officer at the Manchester United Supporters Trust. He has very recently died at the age of 57 after a lifetime of service to football supporters. He campaigned for safe standing years before it was fashionable and is credited with almost single-handedly persuading MUFC to freeze ticket prices for the best part of a decade.
It's a testament to the high regard that he was universally held in that Manchester United players wore black armbands to mourn his passing yesterday. We don't know of many fans who would get an accolade like that.
Fans like Ian don't often make the headlines, but football as we know it now would not be as it is without people like him. He will be sorely missed. RIP Ian.
A fuller tribute to Ian, written by the FSA's Amanda Jacks, is below.

Obituary: Ian Stirling RIP - Football Supporters' Association
The FSA was very sorry to hear of the tragic passing of Manchester United supporter Ian Stirling this weekend. Ian played a huge role at Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST), was always a friend to the FSA and, most importantly, he was a great guy.
