Riviera Maya in Mexico

Better than Cancun, more sedate.

I went it was Feb time beach was full and I mean full of seaweed but you can't help that.

Been to both, Maya better!

Beautiful part of the world.

You can't go without visiting a cenote. So refreshing, especially in those temperatures.

Xcaret a brilliant excursion as well if you like a bit of adventure.

If you're a beach-lover, however, you might be disappointed as they have an issue with seaweed washing up onto the shore.

Brilliant country.... Stopped in playa del Carmen and it was superb, went to cancun and was glad to be stopping in playa del Carmen

Go and see chichenitza it's stunning

Was lucky enough to spend a week at the Grand Velas hotel in Riviera Maya. Utterly amazing hotel and complex.

Stand by for this. I went about 7 years ago, 5 star all inclusive and absolutely hated it, I mean really hated it. Full of loud mouthed Americans, plus it was my first all inclusive, highly recommended and I swore I would never go all inclusive again. If that is what you are doing and you like that sort of thing then you'll probably love it. It could be anywhere else hot in the world with a beach and palm trees in a compound with arranged trips out. We took the local bus (to escape) on a number of occasions and it was okay. Top quality restaurants!! Not in my eyes, there wasn't a traditional Mexican meal to e found apart from the lunchtime beach restaurant and that was bang average. 7 or 8 other international restaurants but I was totally underwhelmed. It makes me shudder thinking about it even now.

If you are going and free styling then you are likely to have a really good time, I wouldn't recommend an all inclusive to anyone though, Go native, get into and airbnb somewhere avoiding all the holiday makers and soak up the authentic places and mix with the locals.

Done the backpack holiday all over for years this is just a beach holiday. I agree going native is far more rewarding

Don't say I didn't warn you!! 🤪

Have a great time, let us know what you thought when you get back. I told someone who was going to Malta last year that it was a terrible place and they loved it, so what do I know!!

Stayed at the Iberostar playa paresa.
Apart from the loud mouthed Yanks and Canadians Mrs Wizz and I thought it was great. You can get away from them, the hotels are massive.
Beaches were cleared of seaweed every morning, if you told the beach seller's that you weren't interested they left, didn't pester you.
The food was great and when timed right plenty of choice with plenty of Mexican dishes.
It's a hell of a long trip but try and do Chichen it's, an unbelievable place to visit.
I hope you enjoy it👍🏻

Went for my 50th. I enjoyed it, just wish I could remember the name of the hotel for you.

It is a fair point about the Americans. Most were absolutely fine, but some sadly did the stereotypical image of them being loud no favours at all. Especially one particular lady in our hotel who was a bit leathered by the pool one day and even embarrassed me with her language.

However, that small point aside, had a great time. One thing we found, when they ask you where you're from, just say England. All the hotel people would nod enthusiastically and say how much they liked London. The Yanks tried and usually failed to get a bit more specific.

Which reminds me of a funny moment while there. The main road is virtually ruler straight for miles, following the coast, hotels at each turn off. There's a regular minibus service - is it called the Connectivo? Just runs the full length of this substantial main road, and you can travel for miles for not much, very popular and used service.

I was sat in the front one day, so didn't see who got on. Already behind me were several Yanks, suddenly I heard a new and distinctly English couple get on. Ola everybody, says this weedy little voice. Where you from son, asked a kindly American. Chesterfield, came the reply, it's got a crooked spire.

Stayed at the Fairmont Mayakoba a while back. Truly Stunning hotel, decent beach, great golf course but not a patch on Aruba!
