For going into Nuclear alert because of her comments supporting people travelling to Ukraine from the UK to fight against Russia. The stupid ** bint!!

She did yesterday when she clarified that ‘ she would not oppose it’ as opposed to she would ‘support it. ‘ It’s ridiculous to think this is anything but another spin of an excuse to validate his awful threats.

If a nuclear deterrent is used by the monster it will be for no other reason than he is losing a war that he started.

Yep, a daft thing to say in such a tense situation. But to blame her is of course quite wrong, but when did that stop this nutter in the Kremlin?
I saw this morning that James Heappey the Armed Forces Minister has very respectfully disagreed with the comments in such a manner that didn't embarrass his colleague.

I've been very impressed with with James Heappey during this crisis. He answers questions directly, and comes across as someone who knows what he is talking about, which as a former military officer in Afghanistan and Iraq isn't surprising.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs was commissioned to convene them. If they do not happen again or their results do not guarantee security for our country, Ukraine will have every right to believe that the Budapest Memorandum is not working and all the package decisions of 1994 are in doubt.

Too much is said in public these days which simply wouldn’t have happened in previous times. Walls have ears etc.
We’re giving too much advantage to Putin by airing our views/ intentions in public.
Hes a madman who will use any excuse to advance his vile warmongering and the brainwashed Russian people grab at his rhetoric as a justification for his actions.

Russian media are reporting that a few Special Ops troops are in Ukraine targeting specific military targets. The majority of the population won't have a clue what's really going on until the bodies start coming back.

Apparently some Russian soldiers have been told they're on an exercise and have no idea where they are.

I too think she's useless, but I think she was right to say what she did.

As has been said on another thread, most of us on here are too old and decrepit to do anything, but I'd applaud anybody who decided to go to Ukraine to help.

Putin is a nutter, but he can't dictate to other countries' citizens where they can and can't go.

On another post I mentioned my uncle who went to Spain in 1936 to fight the fascists. He came back and then fought Germany. A family hero.
 
Much as Photo-Op Truss is all but useless, its a bit rich to blame her comments - and exactly which one(s) we don’t know - for causing Putin to put his nuclear deterrent on standby.

It was something he was going to do as it became apparent the Ukraine is not the pushover he thought it would be.

Scare tactics that seem to have backfired as it all it has done is strengthen most of the worlds resolve against him as well as that of the Ukrainians themselves.
 
Putin mentioning Liz Truss in the context of him raising the stakes with nuclear weapons is pathetic and should be treated with the contempt it deserves. As for the Foreign Secretary, I'm afraid she isn't nuanced enough in her bluster and tough talking to convincingly carry off the role she's been given, let alone the question of her competence.
 
Bloody 'ell I was beginning to think all that support for Ukraine was all bluster until I read the last few posts not condemning Truss's comment.

I can't believe that anyone believes that Russia has changed any of its Nuclear stances because of what she said . I don't like her ,but to believe that Putin is got any weapons that are not accessible at short notice is just daft. He had this statement televised to make not bright people sh@t themselves and as we can see . It's worked on some.

They have been threatening to use Nukes from before they started the invasion. Quite a few weeks ago one of the upper echelons in Putin's puppet parliament said they would turn the West and its population into nuclear dust.

So, to now blame Liz Truss is just another lie, in a volume of lies, coming from the madman and his cohorts.

Yup its a real “Don’t tell him Pike” moment for sure, probably all the photo-ops she has been doing that made her spring to mind, plus Foreign Minister Lavrov (the Russian FM just in case you get confused with all these “Friends of Russia type around Westminster these days) was less than complimentary about her brief a week or two ago!

Good job Liz Truss didn't threaten to send a questionairre from the Met otherwise the nukes would be raining down now.
 
Claiming Truss specifically was the reason is clearly bullshit, but European nations are playing a very dangerous game by sending materiel to Ukraine right now.

Russian forces are already finding that Ukraine is flooded with British-made anti-tank weapons (NLAW ATGMs specifically) and I suspect this is Russia's way of pointing the finger at the UK for that.

Actually Ukraine is flooded with Russian materiel. Far more so than British.

True, but most 'russian' equipment across Eastern Europe is manufactured in those countries as they are former Warsaw-pact nations.

Lots of the equipment in use by Ukraine is nominally 'Russian'. They are still equipped with soviet-era AK-74s, PKMs, BMP APCs and T72 tanks.

I know you weren't talking to me here, and I don't have a link, but I do remember a comment along the lines of: "If NATO attacks Russia we will not hesitate to use our nuclear arsenal".

Standard sabre-rattling to be honest. Russia knows that their nuclear deterrent is their greatest safety net.
