Russians

Taken a spanking in the last few days, lost more territory in 3 days than they gained in four months of costly attrition. Morale is very low amongst the far right nationalists who are basically saying Russia needs to fully mobilise or lose the war.

The counter offensive has been very effective due mainly to US supplied Himars and Turkish supplied drones.

Criticism inside Russia by the liberals has been suppressed whereas RW commentators have been given a free rein. Presumably that’s because Putin assumed they’d be supportive and they were initially. But recently that’s all changed and, while they’re blaming “advisers” rather than Putin directly, the criticism has been very strong.

There’s been speculation why Putin hasn’t suppressed this RW criticism as well and the feeling seems to be that the critics are protected by other powerful elements in the Kremlin who presumably Putin is wary of taking on. If there’s a coup that’s where it’ll most likely come from.

But as already mentioned, rather than peace negotiations, Russia could double down and order a general mobilisation. That also obviously carries risks for Putin.

Yes.

There are some real RWNJs in Russia who would make Putin look like a moderate.

Sometimes it's better the Devil you know.

Putin could ‘win’ in a heartbeat by using a small nuclear weapon on a major Ukraine city. I hope he doesn’t go this route but I wouldn’t rule it out.

I'm not sure if that would help him, the problem isn't just manpower, it's equipment, supplies, organization, and above all command and control, if anything just adding more troops into theatre might make things worse.

One side is fighting for its life, the other is being forced to fight a phoney war.

Whilst Russia is a vast nation it shouldn't be forgotten that Ukraine has 80 million population. The percentage of volunteers to fight must be huge in Ukraine compared to Russia.

Gaining ground on the Russians given proper equipment is no surprise.

Nonsense, they would immediately have no allies, and no one in the undecided camp either. There would be a global consensus of Russia being a failed state that is too dangerous and needs to be broken into 7 nations by All Including China and India.

Thing that I noticed in that video is no one is asking "why are we in Ukraine in the first place, what's our aim, and how do we achieve it." If they had goals originally they no longer matter, they've shifted into win or get out. Which means they've failed and in Russia failure and weakness can't be tolerated.

Yes, but win what? For a moment or two perhaps whilst losing for more than a life time in global terms

Spies and Military chiefs are fleeing from Crimea according to the Ukrainians. Sounds like it could possibly be coming to a head, if true?

Nowhere near 80 million more like 44 million according to Google.Ukraine will still win though as long as it stays non nuclear🇺🇦

If Russia loosed off a battlefield nuke every nuclear nation would be on full alert. China would be fully against this. I think that North Korea's nuclear ambitions are ultimately governed by China.

Is your last sentence the reason why they could possibly do the unthinkable and use a nuclear weapon?

Of course it would make no sense. But who knows what’s in Putin’s head? You certainly don’t.
He’s already threatened a nuclear attack using ambiguous language. Backed into a corner no-one can rule out anything. In fact some former colleagues of his have said he’s more then willing to use a nuclear weapon if necessary.
We’re not talking about a large nuclear weapon but a smaller warhead. These smaller tactical nuclear weapons exist. The would be relatively localised in their impact and would stop Ukraine in its tracks.
No one wants to see this happen. But it’s not nonsense to speculate that it’s a real possibility.

The Russian tactic of throwing bodies at a war isn't working - soviet army lives and equipment are cheap, but even this hasn't helped them keep making ground or hold onto what they had gained. Putin also misfed due to his own arrogance by yes men, who thought they'd march into Ukraine, be welcomed and easily overthrow the government. Didn't factor in people fighting for their land and families, along with Western tech help. All of which has now led to the Russians being stuck in a real quagmire, worse than the Americans in Vietnam.
Hopefully the outcome will be that the Russians project that holding onto some ground in the Eastern region is enough to save face, and a peace deal being agreed. Otherwise it'll be a long, hard winter for both sides with no end in sight.
