Ryan Hardie

It really would be a big mistake to let Hardie go. And it makes no sense with our new policy of aiming to develop young players. Not to mention we are seriously lacking pace in the squad.

I do trust the people running the club of course, but I can't help thinking he'll be a 20 goals striker next season, and I'd prefer it to be for us, not Plymouth.

We should give him a proper chance under Critchley and not let him go to another L1 club at this stage, unless they were offering really decent cash for him (which will be doubtful)

Ryan Hardie was unfit, this was stated by Ryan Lowe when he joined Plymouth. He said something along the lines of
' I can't believe how unfit he is, he's a mile behind our players in his fitness'
Most of the games he played were as a super sub, he looked sharp, quick and scored a lot of goals.
So my only reservation is, has he got the fitness to play 90 minutes and if the answer is yes, then he's a 20 goal a season striker , i really hope so.

I would like to see him have a run here, but if there are talks going on that probably tells us all we need to know about his prospects at BFC.

Engaged in talks could mean they’ve made an enquiry, not necessarily anything more.

From a business point of view, if we signed him for nowt and got offered 600k for example, it’d probably be worth it.

Cost 250k. If we let him go there and he bangs in a load of goals, we re going to look like right Charlies. Remember Bradford and Eoin Doyle last year. I can see something similar happening here.

we really need to give him a chance.

I'll play Devil's Advocate. He was bloody awful whenever I saw him play for us. Scoring a few in L2 does not guarantee goals in L1. Plymouth were flying and creating lots of chances. I'd be worried by the fitness comment also. How a professional footballer can be 'miles' behind in fitness is an indictment on the player and Grayson/previous fitness coaches. If they offer what we paid, I'd snap their hands off and move on.

He simply didn’t suit Grayson’s style. He has scored everywhere else. He could thrive under Critchley and I think it would be a mistake to sell. The guy knows where the goal is and was just unfortunate he couldn’t play well doing hoof ball

Well said NO I thought he was crap also in nearly all the games he played for us and against some weaker opposition in cup competitions.
From what I saw he can't play out wide in a three or play at top on his own and isn't a midfielder and at Plymouth they played a 4-4-2 so he was paired off with another striker can you see Critch playing that way?

I can't be it 4-3-3/4-5-1/4-2-3-1 he doesn't fit in a starting side and maybe used as an impact sub to put two up top if we are chasing a game.

Letting him go would be a mistake, he needs a good pre season and a run of games.......for us!

That’s how I understand it too, I’m sure Critchley will want to give him a chance and Plymouth have enquired and will probably be told no.

Lowe isn’t going to come out and say we haven’t asked about him is he, that would go down well with fans, think it’s more of a pleaser for Plymouth fans then anything, say the right things whilst transfer business is quiet, I wouldn’t read a lot into it.

Lowe talked up all the loanee's which is a good thing to do. I'm sure he will do what he can to get some of them but he may get none. We would like the 3 lads we had at the end of last season too, doesn't mean we will get any of them.

NC will assess Hardie and if he wants to keep him then he won't be going anywhere. If he doesn't then he will go for more than we paid for him. I think I will leave it up to him. 😉

Same could be said for Nuttall. If NC doesn't rate him he will be off. If he does then we will have a decent striker on our hands. It would be easier and cheaper for NC to be able to turn their potential into quality that works with his system. If he can't then they will be off.

I hope we keep him, but there’s no denying he was absolutely dreadful prior to Plymouth move.

Zero evidence he can do it in L1 or higher - but given our current situation I wouldn’t be selling. Even if we did, it’d only make sense at £5-600k given what we paid / that we don’t need to sell. Do Plymouth have those sort of funds?

Watch him score his goals at Plymouth, he was given freedom and actually given the ball. He needs to be staying ahead of Nuttall although for me. I'd like him to be given a chance.

I would also like to see him given a fair chance with Critchley. He did not look great for us but I don't think football generally under Grayson prospered. Give him one last chance.

442 and 4231 can be very similar systems. Wingers pushed a little higher and one forward dropping in a little more. I could see Hardie in that role, but would also imagine that's the position the new signing will be after too

I think it'd be a mistake to sell him. I think it'd be an even BIGGER mistake to sell him to a team in our own division.

As others have said, I'd rather give Hardie a chance over Nuttall.

I cannot say he was great with us because he wasn't but its obvious he has pace and we didn't exploit it.

How many times did you watch us last season and we had a player through on goal after a ball was played into space for him to run onto? I honestly am struggling to remember, most teams will create these chances several times a game for their striker and we didnt. We played like gnando was always on the team even when he wasn't.

Play to his strengths, basically pace, and then we will see if he is any good.

'We are in discussions to try and potentially do something'
Translation. We've made a phone call and were told ' no he's contracted to us for another couple of years and is part of our plans next season. Thanks for getting him fit and giving us an indication of what he can do though'.

I suspect it was more like ‘no, but let’s see what happens on the rest of the transfer window’

Letting Hardie go would be a massive mistake. He's young, has a decent pedigree and has proven he can score goals in Scotland and now in League 2. It's always more expensive to replace a player than keep a player and if we let him go we have to replace with someone with similar or better traits... how many young, quick, goalscoring centre forwards are there we can realistically sign without a massive fee ? Secondly he may have looked crap under Grayson but so did a lot of the team. Gnanduillet looked crap for the majority of his career but looked like a world beater at times under Grayson. We need to give, not just Hardie but, each and every member of the squad a second chance to prove their worth under Critchley and under a new style of play.

I too think he deserves a chance but in saying that I also thought he was poor at Bloomfield Road! All comes down to whether NC & the coaching team/receruitment team rate him and see him fitting in and/or have replacements lined up.

With the news about Wigan yesterday I'm surprised teams in L1 are prepared to look at paying fees for players when their potentia existence could be in doubt as we don't know when the turnstiles will open again.

Definitely think he should be kept and given a chance. He's done as much at this level as Jerry Yates has. Both have proven they can score at league 2 level, so why get rid of one and then pay a fee for the other? Better yet, keep Hardie and bring in Yates and let's have some young, mobile forwards who are keen to prove themselves at this level.

Final thought, with Hardie being Scottish, would he even be interested in a permanent move so far south?

My understanding is we paid around 250k for him, I can see why Plymouth would like him to return (I work with some season ticket holders), however Plymouth will not be able to come close to that kind of money we paid for him. Effectively we will have to give him to Plymouth and cannot see that happening, so I expect he will stay with us next season.

I disagree with most who think that he isn't very good. He was always going to be down the pecking order once we'd spent a huge fee on Nuttall. Hardie got incredibly few chances to play for us last season but in the few chances that he got, he was lightening quick and showed a few good touches. Goes to show that we all see different things in players. I'd keep him.

I thought there was potential, as can be seen from his stint at Plymouth, but he seemed very lightweight playing for us and missed some sitters when given opportunities. Doncaster...

Nuttall was given any number of chances under Grayson as he was Grayson`s pick.He was dreadful.Hardie was scarcely given a chance under Grayson but showed considerable promise when the clueless Grayson shipped him out to Plymouth whilst hanging on to Nuttall.

We have lost our leading scorer in Gnanduillet ,it would be crazy and make no sense to let Hardie go without giving him a decent run here.Successful strikers are worth their weight in gold and some.Hardie must be given a proper chance here and I will be very disillusioned with our coaches if he`s not.

Unless we bring at least 2 other strikers in he’s going nowhere

I honestly think some people have forgotten how dire Hardie was, not even close to good enough based on his appearances for us in L1. I'm all for giving him another go but if he's a starter we will be nowhere near the top of the table.

Bollocks he wasnt given a fair chance by Grayson and his tactics didnt fit Hardie as player

Correct

I prefer to base my opinion of him on what i saw "live"..... Not good enough.

Seemed to do well at Plymouth , but showed as close to zero as you can get when given chances in tangerine.
