Salford vs Development Squad

We've only got 10 outfield dev squad players listed on the club website and some of those are out on loan, so I wonder what the team will look like?. I might get along tomorrow. I cycle past that place quite often.

It's likely nobody will be playing I think, going by the weather forecast. Storm Jocelyn, rain all day, 16mm expected.

23mins.
Salford take the lead after Spinelli can't keep hold of a greasy ball and the ball is knocked over the line. The game has been fairly even. Salford look a bit more experienced than Pool.
1-0.

Is Dobs playing three at the back, or does he switch to a four when Critch isn't looking?
No it's 3 at the back again today. Everyone of our team today, apart from Luke Mariette, could actually play for our 18s. Salford look more like an U21/23 side. There's not much between the teams possession but we are little bit light up front.
HT
1-0.

Well done for making the effort Insider, more so if the weather was as bad it was here.it feels like the middle of the night here already.
Certainly not the best weather for football and knowing that location even windier than Squires Gate😂

I'm completely lost by the treatment of the Dev Squad this year. They seem to play very few games, there is little continuity and excellent prospects like Jake Daniels seem to be getting lost in what appears to be an unstructured, going-through-the-motions approach to the Dev Squad. This stands in stark contrast to last year when there seem to be a real sense of purpose to the team and its place in the overall structure of the club. Given Critchley's supposed philosophy and past experience at Liverpool and Sadler's declaration of intent re youth development, I find the whole process deeply depressing. I'm surprised Dobbie hasn't upped-sticks, which would then allow Critchley to bring in another of his anonymous toadies.

Squad doesn't seem as strong this season and we won a lot of games but seem to be losing most this time?
We get back to the debate about the validity of having a Development Squad.
Missing today through injury (or something else??) were Harvey Bardsley, Tayt Trusty, Donovan Lescott, Zak Emmerson, Alex Lankshear and Will Squires. Out on loan are Kawku Donkor, Brad Holmes, Owen Mofatt and Rob Apter. And there's Jack Moore to add to the list.
If all those players were available we could put a decent team out.
It appears that currently we prefer the loan option for developing our players. If we eventually become a Cat 2 Academy we will obviously play academies of a better standard which MAY lessen the need to send our young pro's out on loan and of course ensure they get more coaching in-house. I don't pretend to know if that would be a preferable option.
All I can say is that PL academy teams that participate in the EFL Trophy don't seem particularly effective.
I'm not knowledgeable enough to compare our use of the loan market with similar Clubs and those of a level above.
We have a new Academy Head of Recruitment who is quite noisy on Twitter and is worth following if you have the slightest interest.

Local lad who has worked Bolton and Accy but came (back) to us from Man U, so you’d hope he’s got something about him!

Completely pointless exercise and all a chronic waste of money. Jake Daniels for instance will never make the first team yet we’re still paying his wages likewise how much are we paying Dobbie and all the others for basically zero gain. Just have a first team squad of 24 and sack the rest of it off. Employ a couple of quality scouts and hoover up the best of the City Utd Liverpool lads who get released in their late teens to bulk up a quality first 15 first teamers. .

And how are you going to teach those kids how to play football?
