Salford

What is it about Salford and Live TV? OK, perhaps their First Round FA Cup Tie away to the Daggers fitted the formula that TV uses in search of a possible shock, but that doesn't apply to their selection this time around, again by ITV (home to Chesterfield).
With their pitiful following, there can't be much interest beyond the few thousand that watch them. So maybe it's the allure of the Class of '92 and a chance for the cameras to catch a sight of the Giggs and the Neville's etc.
It seems that the Rule that all Man Utd FA Cup ties have to be televised live, is now being applied to Salford's early rounds. As in previous seasons, they seem to get more than their fair share of TV exposure (and money).

Their attendances are very poor. Seems the locals in the city of Salford have not taken to the project. That and just obliterating the clubs traditional colours to make it a third hand copy of Manchester United after FC United of Manchester.

Rugby League town full of United "fans".
Well it looks like Salford is going to get its Rugby League team back at least, as moneybags Salford City swap grounds with them and head over to Barton. To an even bigger ground (that they are apparently buying with Sale RUFC) for them not to fill. It's not a Franchise steal like MK Dons did - the distances are not the same - but it's much the same sort of thing. The TV money will help.

That ground by the Trafford Centre is an utter debacle - nice ground but imagine a Saturday afternoon game at Christmas against a big following .. deadlock. Stupid place to build a ground in the first place.

Its only a couple miles from Old Trafford where most Salfordians support Man Utd.
The ground is yards from the border of Salford.

I cannot see Salford progressing, most locals will not take to them.

At least the new tramway will be open to the Trafford Centre by next season.

Doesn't it have a plastic pitch?

The potential stadium swap takes Salford City to a ground that has one road in and one road out and is away from their local (such as it is) support base. And is soulless despite having a standing end.

And it brings Salford RLFC back closer to their support base, they have struggled since leaving a ground which a lot of their fan base walked to.

So two things to like about it. To the limited extent that Salford has a separate sporting identity to Manchester, it lies in Salford RLFC,

I go to watch Sale occasionally, they put on a great pre match entertainment, so great atmosphere, but it is so much hassle to get to the ground . You have to pay £1 for bus return ticket from The Trafford Centre & then join a large queue to get back on the bus after the match.

The same teams are favoured by the TV companies. In their game at the Daggers, Salford were absolute garbage, they had about a dozen supporters following them & one of the EFL's most boring managers!
Why on earth do ITV think Salford V Chesterfield will be an attractive game? It's purely because of their annoying owners 😫

The atmosphere must have changed since I went with a Exeter Chiefs supporting mate a few years ago.
Around 5,000 there on a Friday night and very little noise.

Trying to fund a Premiership Rugby Union club in the North West is like trying to fund London Broncos Rugby League. A very expensive project, which will need new owners every few years to keep topping up the losses. To be fair, the losses are relatively small beer compared to football, but even so.
