Scots vs Israel - Flower of Scotland

I really don't understand why they and the Welsh don't sing the National Anthem.

It's the United Kingdom's anthem. What were they singing prior to the late 60s when it was written?
 
If I was a scot I'd belt that out absolute passion.
The England v Hungary game might as well be behind closed doors. Half the England team mumble the national anthem against their will for whatever their reason.
Hungarian players were virtually in tears over theirs.
Make of that what you will.
 
Been to Murrayfield a couple of times with a Jock mate and it’s an absolute belter, up there with France and Italy’s as one of the better anthems for me.

I certainly have no problem with God Save The Queen but forgetting about politics, I think it's fair to say that the Flower of Scotland goes down far better at the football.

Going slightly political, we can hardly expect everybody to belt out God Save the Queen before matches when so many supporters think it's cool to boo it against the English.

I hear what you say Micky re politics and all that chite but Dumfries is also entitled to "like a song without being influenced by bitter bollox".

Perhaps he prefers the tune of God Save The Queen to that of The Flower Of Scotland and doesn't overly concern himself with the words ?
 
I'm a proud Englishman but don't sing GSTQ because the words mean nothing to me.
Would love an anthem like Jerusalem or Land of Hope and Glory.
Can't believe that crappy brass band are still going either.

You do know Flower of Scotland is all about slaughtering the English at Bannockburn? Just checking. I'd say that was quite bitter and harping on about the past.
 
is just a “folk song” but I have to admit it’s better than God Save The Queen.

Land Of Hope And Glory is much better and was used for England games under Don Revie.

Yeah, I think if we had a vote GSTQ would get ousted for LOHAG or I Vow To Thee My Country which is my personal favourite.

As for the Sweaties anthem it's a very good one (even though it is Anti English but they can't seem to forget the past bless em) I also like the French anthem La Marseillaise, a really good up and at em song.
 
I think Flower of Scotland is a complete dirge, at least after the first bar anyway. And as Wiz says the words relate to the past and belong there, just like the verse of the National Anthem that's not sung any more ('God Grant that Marshal Wade, May by thy mighty aid Victory bring, May he sedition hush, And like a torrent rush, Rebellious Scots to crush God save the King,...')

I'm OK with the National Anthem, but the one that really makes the hairs stand on end is the Welsh one.
