Scott Benton

He could have saved the cost of the recall petition if he had resigned a couple of weeks ago. No doubt he was told how it was going and decided that there was no hope for him to avoid a bi-election. If he had an integrity he would have resigned as soon as he was exposed as taking gifts from the gambling industry in exchange for influence. But if you are going to stand and fight your corner, stand and fight your corner!

Does the fact he's resigned instead of being kicked out by the petition result mean a By-Election or will they leave it till after the General?

This is another example of why many voters have lost faith in our UK politicians (plus the fact they're incapable of sorting any of the 'big issues' out).

It's actually a by election for goodness sake. I'm sick of people making obvious tipoes!
If I want to be Mr pedant of pedantville, pedantshire, I could day that the correct term is By-election. However, it is frequently written without the hyphen these days.

And there were those who said there should be no recall petition and he should stay on so as to save some money. I wonder how they feel now that the money has been spent and he’s done a runner before the result has been announced. And as for those who advocated voting him in as he would get the airport reopened 🙄

Well I for one am livid.

Just think how many Rainbow crossings that wasted money could paid for 😡

I think this is a great opportunity for the Blackpool electorate to vote for a local candidate. Chris Webb is Blackpool through and through and sees the position of MP as a chance to speak up for the town, right from the heart. Forget being a Tory, Labour, Lib Dem voter or whatever. Vote for Chris Webb, the Blackpool candidate.
I can't vote in May but can at the next GE.😲
Boundary change for some in Blackpool.

I think the Reform vote could be interesting be interesting to see their level of support.

The only thing that surprises me is how easily the electorate were duped by the clown in the first place .
People voted for Boris not Benton most voters in Blackpool South didnt knnow who Scott Benton was. Yes I know voting for Boris *rolls eyes*

Chris Webb is a great guy and Blackpool through and through and very approchable. We need someone as an MP who really knows the town and what the problems are not like Benton who didn't really giive a toss.

Yes I realise the Boris bit ( also rolls eyes ) but Benton ffs . We do need someone who has an understanding of the town and its problems, someone born and bred locally would be a start .

used to work with his father Carl. hope he gets elected

No, they didn't, honestly. The vote was for "an oven ready Brexit." Now, if it's your constituency, a Blackpool man would be a good choice...yes? Remember, tis is not the GE, it's a by-election.
Sorry yes they did, the electorate hated Marsden with a passion after he constantly went against their wishes so we got crappy Benton.

Blackpool south was pro Brexit(rightly or wrongly) and he constantly went against them.

Got what he deserved the ellectroate wanted rid .

Is it a proper noun and thus deserved of capitalisation?

Asking for a friend.

I assume Benton was forced to resign now so that the by-election can be held on the same day as the local elections, making it easier for the cons to bury the bad news of another electoral trouncing.
In any case it’s a great day for the people of Blackpool South to be finally rid of the incompetent and corrupt weasel.

Forgetting the 'scandal', was he incompitent at his actual job though? Not according to many who have encountered him it seems.

There's a surprising number of people saying hew been the best MP the area has ever had... most visible, out in the community, engaging, some didn't even notice they used to have an MP or couldn't even get a reply.

Not sure what that says about past MP's... but he certainly got involved.

Whatever role was played, Blackpool has and is seeing more money then ever before and he spoke up a lot in Parliament for the town.

Let's hope the Labour guy is better and gets as involved or more.

Bi-election?

More wokey woke wokeness, just wait until the Daily Mail hear of this...

In the GOOD OLD DAYS you could sell access to influence to a fake sheik sting and no one batted an eyelid. It's just all part of the rough and tumble of our great democracy.

It's only since Greta Thunberg, Chris Packham, Boy George, Diane Abbot and Nike came along with their woke values and impregnated society with cultural Marxist values through the fluoride in your seatbelt that this kind of thing became a problem.

The whole of parliament and the legal system was against Brexit hence the debacle. At least be honest and admit that.
The majority of the country voted for Brexit albeit close but the politicians, civil servants, legal system did everything they could to thwart the will of the people.

I've met Chris Webb a few times and the guy is very down to earth and decent.

For balance I've also always had good encounters with Paul Maynard who I don't think makes any secret of the fact he can't stand Benton.

Yep but he’s a conservative MP it so doesn’t really matter if he’s been good for the area

Don't get me started on seatbelts, sometimes I can't reach my bottle of Buckfast if it falls in the passenger footwell thanks to the wokey safety snowflake communists and Jimmy Saville.

It's like saying the Krays were good for the East End.

He's been taking money from gambling companies to push their agenda while being the MP for the poorest wards in the country.

Good riddance.

Did he actually take cash ie £notes in an envelope or was it tickets, favours, etc.

I’ve not followed it apart from reading comments on here so I’m not being clever.

And no I’m not going to read up on it.

Sadly true for many.

I actually don't really care about local politics when Blackpool is involved, I'll get behind what they're doing if it's right, probably defended what the Labour council are trying to do in their plans more than most Labour supporters.

With Benton I'm only going off what I consistently saw online and also some of his involvements in some of the progress, which I pick up in my other improvements thread.

Its hard to say exactly who is responsible for what, it's a collective effort, but all we know is the alliance of the Labour council and Conservative government has brought in more money than ever before. Even the Labour council say so in the recent town prospects, "It's undeniable that the strategic leveling up partnership with central government is working".

Let's hope it all continues whoever is in locally or nationally.

Absolutely 👏👏
