Back in the day, when I lived in Poulton, I used to have a regular route for getting new bits for my many cars.

Derby Rd, Poulton
The Nook at Staining
Corner of Preston New Road and Mythop Road.

All stacked high with cars with no regard for health and safety, frequently climbing the stacks to get some bit of axle, or door panel.

Think they're all housing estates now. Are there any old school scrappers out there now?

Still have an aversion to spending big money on cars, up until late 20's never spend more than 80gbp on a car, scrapped several Hillman imps to keep going.
Now I lift up the bonnet and cannot recognise half the parts so have to rely on garages.
Current car bought off ebay over 4 years ago, looks crap but just completed 500 mile round trip pulling caravan.

I think there's still a scrapper on Cowley Road off Vicarage Lane, but yep the others are new housing nowadays

I Wouldn't mind being a tenner behind any resident on Derby Road, and The Nook at Staining has been housing for many years. As you say Mythop Road is now flats. Don's scrap yard at the end of Highfield Road East/Midgeland Road is a car showroom.

It’s at the end of Cowley Road l was there a couple of weeks ago, but they’ve tightened up on H&S no walking round rows of cars stacked 10 high like the good old days!

The Nook kept my Mk11 Escort going on many occasions. Used to go in with my tool box, get what I needed and it would somehow fly over the fence to be collected later that night. That included a replacement bonnet! Does anyone remember the small man who I think was called Joe? I thought he was of ethnic origin due to his dark skin, but he was just covered in years of oil. He must have burn’t for days when he was cremated. Great days.

Billy Smiths on Talbot Rd.
At our firm when I was an apprentice they used to melt the old lead and stack it in ingots, then take it to Billys who'd do a deal with the boss for cash. Health and Safety would go mad about that now as the fumes are/were extremely toxic and no wonder that generation of plumbers didnt last much past retirement!
