Seasiders podcast Post Match Review 8pm

The problem with the assistant stat is that it would be relevant if the team was the same, but when Calderwood arrived
so did Dougall, Ballard, and then Stewart. When McCall was here we had Wintle and Keough. It could be argued that we have had the most success when Dougall plays alongside someone that can tackle and pass, such as Wintle or Stewart.

That's fair. It's also dominated by the fact Calderwood was here for league 1 success whereas most of the games without an experienced assistant were championship (I did his whole career inc QPR)

To be honest, I didn't do that for the pod, I was just intrigued as to the facts and it came up when Tim mentioned assistants.

Quite enjoyed listening to that. I think the participants got it pretty much spot on about how things are at the minute. Pretty measured no bed wetting etc. Decent.

Critch has taken cautiousness to a new level. Clearly been rattled by his experiences at Villa and QPR, and fear of a Pool fan backlash to his departure. His inability to put players like Apter on the bench smells of weakness, an inability to promote him above more senior players. Hence a bench full of water carriers. And signing Oakley-Booth suggests he wants more water carriers!

And Critch is basically an expression of Sadler's caution. Like a dull conservative head teacher and his deputy head, to use an analogy from my years in education. A school in which everybody is bored. "No running in the corridors!"

Or in our case ' No running down the wings '

The point about the assistants is a bery valid one and I’ve had the same thoughts .

A renegade in the management team someone who isn’t tied to the manager isn’t a bad thing .

Sometimes in every line of business you need someone who can see the wood for the trees not afraid to challenge .
