"Wonder if the mouthy Blackpool fans will be back on here on the wind up. I suspect not."

Yeah, but it's always the same - on our forum we've had in recent years the odd fan (much like myself here ofc) come on, but run their mouth and misrepresent the majority of you. Give an example... When it was announced you'd agreed a fee with Oxford for Cam Bran, we'd have a fan or two singing before the fat ladies (oh the irony here of course...). That gloat like mentality is gonna piss people off, but I think every club has those types of fans.

For me personally, last 5 or so seasons, we've just crossed paths alot, be it rinsing us in the playoffs, Karl Robinson, Cam Brannagan, Thorniley saga and of course a bunch of transfer targets (Joseph, Rodrigues, Harris) only this summer. So you've definitely become a 'rival' of sorts...

I wouldn't be in a hurry to stick up for our internet warriors but when you read the Oxford forum take on us it's just as bad! Magnify stuff out of all proportion and there's a fair amount of misunderstanding goes on.

Oh for sure mate, that's what i'm saying. We've all got a proportion of fans who act like this unfortunately, even more so as you say behind a keyboard.

I can understand Oxford going into this game all cock-a-hoop. They've had a polar opposite start to this season than they endured in the 2nd half of last season.

27 points from 11 games is way above the points per game average even title winners achieve by the end of the season so they will not be able to keep that up.

Maybe this weekend is where the blips start. Should be a cracking game.

It's the world at large, a handful of mouthy idiots make a lot of noise, so the group they are aligned with get tarred with the same brush.
2 or 3 wind up Blackpool fans go on a forum and suddenly all 10,000 of us are the same!
Personally I couldn't be arsed to write anything on an Oxford United forum.

Me either, but I hate Leicester, Tranmere and Sheff Weds purely because of their gobshite fans posting on here over the years 😂

I know what you mean, especially the Leicester one, I think I've nearly got over that one now, and see them for what they are again, a 2nd tier team in a county with one football club, not very impressive.

I'm not a fan of Oxford Utd. I've had two particularly unsavoury encounters with that lot. Not over keen on them.

Another very small club who have some weird superiority complex. Reading are the same. It's the area to be honest.

Although it looks like they have a squad more than capable of top 2 and with a nice new stadium en route they could be a club who turns into a Brentford. Doesn't stop their fans being grade A knobs mind.

Considering we beat them heavily in the playoffs, displayed our top tier negotiation tactics in the two season long cam bran saga and then recalling Thorniley when they loved him, no surprises really they don't like us

The dynamic is a bit like this from our perspective though:

I'm looking forward to some great pubs, a good game and some friendly banter with the Oxford fans. I'm in my 60s and have no intention of balling people out as if I'm a twenty-something wannabe hardnut.

So much so you said it twice it seems. 😅

Main difference nowadays versus past 5 years though is Karl Robinson is gone and we've got super Liam Manning now. So so different...

But unlike Robinson who was only a legend in his own bathroom.
Winning like this will only alert bigger clubs to Manning and they will come calling because he's doing very well.
And after having a ** like Robinson, you deserve a bit of decent football and a pop at the Championship

I just think clubs will be able to offer him his own Koi pond and decking.....would Brannigan be happy if he has to give his back?

Yep, that's something we've already been discussing, but realistically as things stand Manning hasn't actually won anything, so hopefully nothing will happen until at least the summer. By then, we should in theory have spades in the soil for our new ground, so there's a real opportunity for Manning, a la Brentford, hopefully we can keep him and this trajectory!

Agree on all sentiments re: Robinson, except for style - we played in the main good attacking football but I think quite one dimensional, whereas already with Manning he seems to be a lot more astute on the opposition and targeting their weaknesses, I guess similar to Critchley, which doesn't make us as predictable...

10,000? There's way way more Blackpool fans than that...

Funny thing to mock us about, being in the Premier League, don't think they've even been in the championship in about 20 years.

Should be a good one on Saturday, really looking forward to it. They've had a great start but I still think we have significantly more quality than them even without Joseph and Gabriel, but have not been good away from home so far so I wouldn't be surprised by a cagey 1-1.

I think we've become Oxford' nemesis in some respects and there is a bit of rivalry which adds to the spice for the forthcoming game.
Yeah i'd agree with that, as with Bristol Rovers. Charlton fans often say the same about us.

@PdxTangerine i'm not sure about having significantly more quality than us though - honestly not sure who i'd want from your 11 if given the choice to be honest... 🥶

Haha, fair enough Neyo.

We shall see at the end of the season, to be fair i'm nowhere near an expert on your squad and could be way off.

Good squad this year. Will be a really tough game.

What a few people say on a forum shouldn't wind people up.

They gave us Gary Briggs after all 🥰

Who cares about Oxford anyway. Another nothing club. Was tipping them for promotion at the start of the season as they are spending beyond their means by the sounds.

I think it was one of the 'pundits' on Sky that said
"Everyone in League 1 can beat everyone else in that League, but it's those teams that can put on a decent run, who will get out"

Oxford at home, will give them the advantage and they are having a very good run, which is 100% down to their manager.
If we can get any points out of this, then this says more about us....
I think Oxford are on their "run" at the moment, so it's going to be a real test for us.....and one I think will be very hard.

I think Manning will be flavour of the month for other bigger clubs come January,
If they can hang on to him, I expect them to be in the mix...if they don't hang on to him....They better start offering all players ponds.

I think a big thing from that Brannagan saga that people don’t really speak about was that our two main journos at the time (Scrafton and Mcginlay) acted like over excited children when we agreed a fee.

They were posting gifs and just being generally unprofessional. Made the following collapse of the deal all the more sweeter for any Oxford fan on twitter and all the more embarrassing for us.

Wasn't that all a wind up by Oxford/B******** in the first place?

Did we ever really agree a fee, or was that just leaked to embarrass us?

Oxford much more likeable now James Corden has left the hot seat. Sour puss bellend.

No beef with Oxford here. Just another league one team who we will be competing to get out of this division with.

I’ve had a bet on Brannagan to score any time at 7/2. Nailed on, innit

May not be playing with this sickness in their camp. We can but hope.
