Seriously worried

In an interview the manager stated that the first half was planned and we were going to frustrate them
How by giving them too much time to pick a pass or too many options who to pass to
The only people he frustrated were the fans
Please let the second half performance be a blueprint for the future
Respect no one, be aggressive without the ball and brave with it
No clever plans or formations just maximum effort

So will you moan when we're caught on the counter like we were on Saturday?

Tbf it may not have been great to watch the 1st half but I totally understood it against a team like Swansea. They had the ball in front of us, there was no danger to us and it worked fine. 2nd half we then had a bit more of a go.
It's crazy to think we should have gone all out pressing all game against them in that heat. They woukd have passed it round us and we woukd have been knackered.
The only thing that was wrong with that performance was that we missed 3 or 4 huge chances and a penalty.

That’s right. Whatever the style the first half worked as they went in at 0-0 Not great to watch but mission achieved

I didn't like it but you could argue with the temperature being as it was he was hoping to lull then into being tired and hit them on the break. If Jerry had scored it may have worked and there would be a lot less frothing.

Incorrect, the tactics were fine, the personnel is the problem.

I agree with you.
Pre-match Appleton said we need to show them some respect and then post-match he said we showed them too much respect!
The team need to go out there and play their own game and let the opposition decide how they will play against us.
It shouldn’t be the other way round (especially at home).
I am not a massive fan of Lavery but he made a massive impact when he came on and the whole dynamics changed.
Surely he must start tonight?
If Appleton instructs his players to show QPR respect then we might as well not turn up.
Sorry to go against my persona but that is how I feel.
I said on his appointment that I felt he was the wrong choice but, with all new managers, he needs a chance to settle in and decide in his own mind what the best squad is and when that is sorted allow them to play with a certain amount of freedom.

Swansea had more and better chances throught the game and the penalty was never a penalty - no-one is talking about that on the forum.
We were poor against a team who were struggling same as the Reading game where we played football for the first 20 minutes - the only time this season we have actually played any kind of decent football.

Some people need to take the tangerine glasses off, our performances have been awful so far this season, no obvious tactics, poor personal performances and poor team selections, with little to cheer about, the finger is pointing at Mr Appleton for most of this - simply not good enough at this time.

It just goes to show how everyone views games differently
I don't believe you let teams dominate at home
I think if you surrender possession you should expect to lose

No problem whatsoever with the 1st half tactics against a team like Swansea especially in those conditions and we limited their chances. 2nd half we were a different team and Lavery at last came alive and caused them all sorts of problems. We lost the game because we failed to put our chances away and they nicked it at the end, simple as that!

Whilst in general I agree with that and much prefer to dominate the ball, unfortunately we don't have the players to dominate the ball against Swansea. As I said I thought it was OK but ultimately if you lose it will be questioned and rightly so to be fair.

Rovers beat them 3-0 away and Rotherham drew with them at home, both with less possession than we had. Swansea are weird.

It's modern football I'm afraid, reacting to the opposition, long gone are the days of Holloway just telling them to attack like bastards.

There is no way on this earth that our current team can match Swansea with a high press and a possession based game

If we had of tried they would have ripped us to threads, the tactics were fine

The problem is we missed a penalty made some individual wrong decisions and we are probably 2 or 3 players short on what we need

It certainly shouldn't be pointed at Appleton

A game of two halves
Two different tactics and performances
Many would prefer to watch the first half were the score was 0-0
I prefer the second half were we could and should have won

The heat was a massive issue and IMO we let them have the ball and use up energy whilst we conserved ready to push the 2nd half. Didn’t feel at all like they were likely to score in the first half, and In the second we should have scored 3 or more, they gave little in the 2nd half. I agree at home you should dictate the play but not sure we could have sustained it in the heat so managed the first half and went for it the 2nd, just didn’t take the chances, but atleast made them in the first place.

Critchley did pretty much the same thing in the home game against Swansea in March TBH.
In a rare use of five at the back, we rarely got forward and did not create a lot.
He was helped by a very early goal from a set piece.
Very boring game, but effective.

i dont get the first half at all or tactics like it. its the team who arent in possession who are doing most of the hard work, the side in possesion can dictate the pace, but sitting off to conserve energy particularly because we had all players within thirty five yards of our goal line so every time we intercepted there was no outlet and the ball came straight back just makes no sense, as it requires everyone to expend a huge amont of energy to turn any interception in any kind of possession

Deary me

He's obviously finding his feet tactically with this group (as they say nowadays). There will be some trial and error with each game providing important lessons. It's normal. Again, AVFTT is rife with confirmation bias.

That's not to say I don't scratch my head when we apparently sleepwalk through the first half of our last three games. I am relatively confident he will sort it.

So will you moan when we're caught on the counter like we were on Saturday?
That was just ridiculous to leave one man back on a corner.
Equally as bad as chritchiey bringing everybody back to defend one.
I am getting to think they don't discuss tactics during the week, probably more important things to do.
