Where was the “white Pele” today? Injured i assume….

With the season concluding at least my “investment” with bet365 on Shane being top scorer in the league has vanished for ever 😭😭😭….and thinking about it so has my investment.

Injuries have done for Shane, without the constant niggles he could of been a top player for us. Got to have played his last game in a Tangerine shirt surely?.

I’ve still not made my mind up about him and we’re three years in now. He’ll look like a potential 20 goal man then twang a hammy and look like he’s forgotten how to play football.

Sounds like he’s moving on and it’s probably best for both parties.

Would be ok as a pressing forward as a squad players IF he could stay fit. I’d like to think if we could find a suitable replacement he’d be on his way.

I think that he was a very good player for us until his hamstring injury at home to T'Rovers in the Championship.
Since then , he's lost a yard of pace, which was his best attribute.
Sadly, he's been unable to recover that yard (so far), to the extent that he's being closed down by L1 defenders before he gets his shot at goal.

He needs to work on his fitness / pace, but I fear the recurring injuries have done him no favours. As already posted, its's perhaps better for both parties if he moves on. Always put in a shift and gave 100% though.

Shame but everyone knew including him that this was his season to shine but beyond the first game vs Burton, even taking into account the injuries, he has not looked like a league one striker on a promotion seeking team.

League 2/Conference/Back to Irish league i'm afraid.
i heard rumours today and that’s all they were that Barrow were sniffing g around to take him to Cumbria - wouldn’t be a bad move for him tbf

Proper injury prone, time to move on.

Chocoate hamstrings ruined him because once that explosive pace had gone his touch & hold up play gets found out.
Shame as he's a pest at pressing and he could finish, was probably the best finisher we had at one point.

Then got injured and never quite looked the same, although he started the season looking sharp pre season and early on then injured again and again.

I don't know if it's the end and he's a nice lad, but it's a shame as he had real potential.

He's another that's been stifled by the system. It's only 18 months ago play off chasing Millwall were after him. Play him on the shoulder with balls in behind and he'll put them away. We simply don't play to his strengths. As can be said for all our best players. Joseph has played wide of a front 3 all his career, why sign him?!

Lavery is an intentional striker who has pace, good in the air (for his height) and an excellent finisher. He's a no risk signing for half the championship. Which I assume is why he was nowhere to be seen today

I think we missed him. Lavery out and Joseph in was the only starting line-up change between the team that stormed Barnsley and the one that stuttered against Reading. His pace and persistence (even without and product) would have kept Reading worried. We lacked fire without him.

How do you account for his awful finishing ???? Nothing to do with systems etc… he can’t consistently finish

Could not agree more👍 Lavs is to injury prone and never been the same since Rovers as home. Critch talked about deciding where ‘ we want to go and making tough decisions’ in his post match interview. Lavs is one of them, time to be ruthless and move him on, he is never fit enough for long enough and ultimately simply is not good enough. Always looks to me like he is carrying to much timber, bit like a Rooney maybe where he needs to play otherwise puts weight on easily.

Good in the air and excellent finisher?
I don’t know why to support your argument you pointed out 2 things he is absolutely useless at.

Great assessment. Played incorrectly

As with Beesley and Joseph, Lavery is a very honest and hard working player but one that sadly isn't good enough. If we want to improve on 8th, we need strikers who score 15-20 a season as a minimum. It's best we let most of those out of contract go and make our recruitment team earn their money.

Stifled by twangy hamstrings more like.

A victim of his own style of play. The way he harries defenders ( I call him The Wasp) means he's always stretching which doesn't do much for injuries.

Hopefully a few weeks rest and a good pre-season and he'll be back to what we know and expect from him.

I wouldn't let him go.
Just looked at the 2 goals against Burton. One was just perseverance the other the ball behind the defender. Shane has had to play the second half of the season with his back to goal, except at Bromley.

To be fair putting £20 on Lavery being top scorer means you will lose £20 every single time! Nice bloke who 99% of fans want to do well but I can't see him being better than Conference or L2.

Quite a sensible option for all concerned to pursue. And if, on what should be the day of his eventual move to the Cumbrian club, he suffers yet another recurrence of his hamstring injury, arrangements could perhpaps be made for him to be pushed there by wheelBarrow ...

haha i see what you did there tarant 😜

Lavery is a very likable player. He also probably needs a run of about 10-15 games unhindered by injury to hit the form and confidence in himself and his part in a system and his team mates.

Very sadly, I don't think he's going to get that because he doesn't seem to be able to play more than two or three games without a niggle.

Any due diligence re this would have shown the same pattern throughout his career. His hamstrings were troublesome when he was at Everton.

Both he and Yates were hampered by Critchley mark one as when they were injury free and did score goals he chose to rotate and rest them ..it definitely undermined them both and then Shane’s run of injuries kicked in..I think he is better than he has shown this season and will do a good job for someone…Fleetwood maybe?

I bet Wellens could get a tune out of him.
