No not the 1970s football magazine , It seems to me that we very rarely score from outside the penalty area . we are very shot shy , could this be why we have a low goal tally . Does anyone have the stats on it ?

I suspect it’s partly a ball retention strategy; unless you have players who can regularly score from distance, sport science probably suggests it’s a bad idea and prevents situations from developing where you are more likely to score. Keshi for example seems more willing than most to try his luck, certainly from the edge of the box areas but he has some success so maybe he’s encouraged where other are less so?

Sonny Carey and Callum Connolly both love a crack from outside the area too and potentially Owen Dale (from what I’ve seen of him so far). His shot from outside the area on Tuesday went just wide of the post.

Which is a real pity as the balls today are so much easier to not only hit at pace, but often move in the air which at worst offers a fumble or parry from the keeper.

Then again, our direct free kick record of last 2 seasons suggests we are better passing if….

Todays footballs are like beach balls compared to the balls of pre 1990 , they are made so they swerve and dip without any special skill being applied , Even with their Giant "foam hand" gloves keepers fumble a lot more than they used to with bare hands and a harder heavier ball .

Matty Virtue has scored a couple of crackers for us during his time here. I think we miss him and Ward more than we realise.
I don't. Ward maybe, Virtue was average in L1 and L2. Not sure why people suddenly think he's going to be running the Championship.

I dont think I said he would be running the Championship, but i believe he offers us something more attacking wise than some of our midfield. I guess Critchley giving him a contract extension shows what he thinks of MV.

... turning the OP on its head.. how many have we conceded from outside the penalty area this season?

Just had a quick look at the Bournemouth forum and they seem to think they're lucky it's 1-0.
