Preston, 1888/89
The Lilywhites were a great team – they won the league in 1888/89 undefeated – but their greatness was tarnished by corruption. Ten of that side were Scots, lured south by promises of money and jobs at a cotton mill managed by Preston’s secretary/manager William Sudell.

Four years earlier, when football was still officially an amateur game, the FA had kicked Preston out of the FA Cup for paying players. When they, Aston Villa and Sunderland threatened a breakaway league over the issue, a compromise was struck, allowing clubs to employ professional footballers who were born – or lived – locally.

Come on I'm sure it's a bit of light hearted banter on a message board, if you can't have a dig about your rivals on you're own message board where can you. Have a look at some of the stuff about Sunderland on the Newcastle board. You don't get the Magpies jumping on defending the Mackems.

Crap post.
Preston have a proud history which ok dates back over 130 years but they have every right to be proud of their clubs past success’s. Just like we do.
Yeah, but still I was a little surprised to find they cheated to their best achievement, as I bet some nobbers were.

A little something to banter them with.

However it was a long time ago and I couldn't really care less.

I think @Davepick was only 36 when it happened.
