Should we worry?

It appears that after thorough searches of the cars used by the Government, by the security service, certain components have been identified as suspicious and possibly used for spying.

The chips, which were found in sealed units within the cars were manufactured in China and can apparently track the vehicles whereabouts speed etc.

We probably all have Chinese manufactured items within our homes, should we be worried?

Why would the Chinese want to monitor you personally?

In truth I think these days, with mobile phones etc, our whereabouts are usually discoverable for anyone with the means and skills who wants to know where we are.

The son in law of a good friend was caught out recently. The daughter was suspicious about what he was up to, so her sister tracked hubby’s mobile phone via his laptop (which was still at home). That revealed exactly where he was, what he was up to and with whom.

The couple are now getting divorced.

I could be an MI5 or MI6 agent for all anyone knows, I can't say. 😎

Not worried as not sure any state nation would be interested on an individual level but collecting large amounts of data and using modern cloud analytics could be useful. I'd be more concerned if the link was used to send data the other way, now that could affect an individual's safety/ freedom of movement.

I would say should we be surprised & haven't the Chinese had a big part in the current 5G rollout. What could possibly go wrong there. Talk about getting our pants potentially pulled down.

If they're spying on me in my car, all they'll get is me singing along randomly, talking to myself out loud and repeated shouts of 'What are you doing you clown, bell-end'etc or 'FFS' when stuck on the motorway again. If that helps them to take over the world, good luck to them.

Wilf, the CIA have the equipment to intercept any phone call in the world so I would imagine the Chinese are equally equipped to do the same and lots more.
As an individual I wouldn’t think for one second they were interested in me so it doesn’t bother me one iota.
Don’t worry Wilf they won’t be interested in you either.

Yeah, last MOT was a couple of trailing arm bushes and that was it.

I don't really like newer cars, they don't drive as well, aren't built as well and too much pointless crap to go wrong.
I certainly wouldn't disagree with the pointless crap. Sensors, computers, management units everywhere. And all a small fortune to replace when they inevitably go wrong.

Almost impossible to stop. Chinese build back door entry into almost all their hardware and software, plus all Chinese corporations are majority share owned by the state.
The chips are unilateral so used across all supply chains (they don’t make special UK special force ones) and their main concern is to allow an audit of their own internal companies.

Of course, this then aids them in overseas espionage too. Most blockchain encryption can be overcome too by their back door entry gate unfortunately. (Makes ethical hacking easier though 👍)

It why it’s almost pointless trying to protect your intellectual property these days as the Chinese normally find a way to reverse engineer the code - particularly if you have any of their software or hardware on the device.

Good luck to the boys in Cheltenham- they’re absolutely up against it here.

Unless your work is officially restricted I dunno why you bother about it. And if it is, then your technology and communications will be encrypted to the n-th degree.

Our towns’s streets are plastered with CCTV cameras with all manner of people watching you. And the police never seem to leave their cop stations to try and solve anything. If CCTV does not give them an answer they can’t be bothered.

That’s why the government removed the Chinese from building the latest nuclear power station, and 5g network because they were scared they would be able to control it remotely.

Don't forget the Chinese state are building and about to start operating a nuclear power station in the country, and have guarantees in place courtesy of Cameron and May to build and operate at least one more
