Simon Reeve in Patagonia

I have just watched the latest programme in his Wilderness series, in Patagonia. It’s a wonderful episode, covering a very tough journey in an incredible country, with serious climate issues that he explains very well.

I have to say that Reeve is an admirable chap, with a tough upbringing but a remarkable attitude who turned his life around, who should be a great example to all. To me… a bit of a hero.

And view it in 4k definition on BBC IPlayer if you can. Extraordinary footage.

AK, he is a fantastic, unassuming presenter.

His shows are a must watch.

Tonights show was fantastic; you almost feel you are inside that shack with Simon and the Gaucho's.

And those Puma's..... Wow!

Having googled him after this recommendation I must say 🥰

Will check out his programmes now 🤗

Loved it so far. Also all his previous adventures.

A friend of mine is heading to he Argentina Patagonia in March fishing (seems a bit extreme to me…)

I completely agree. He also did a nice interview with Cerys Matthew’s on Radio 6 on 21 January. Well worth a listen.

It's true, he does a brilliant but unassuming job getting the issues across. I travelled through Chile in 2019 on one of my birding trips and it's a fantastic country. Straightforward to do it self drive, though you need flights to cover some of the massive distances. We went from Arica in the far North right through to Puerto Williams on Isla Navarina in Tierra del Fuego - the Southernmost populated place in the World. You can do it affordably on a very small car ferry from Punta Arenas. We could see the melt from glaciers as described in the programme while sailing through desolate pristine landscapes via the Beagle Channel, they are receding at a scary rate.

Saw him live at his show late last year. Very easy to listen to and good story teller.
Also revealed a lot of behind the scenes stuff which you dont see on his shows.
Also interesting to hear how he came into the spotlight in first place, due to his journalistic investigation into Osama Bin Liden

He is great is Sharma. Remember one of his Greek islands shows and he ended up being there when a boat full of migrants rolled onto the beach. He helped them get onto the shore. Mad. Wasn't planned as part of the show.

Torres del Paine in southern Chile is one of the most spectacular places on the planet. In fact the whole of Chile is. I lived there through the mid90s and desperate to get back to fill in the gaps I missed first time. As the landscape breaks up into fjords, volcanoes, lavascapes and forests of monkey puzzles it looks prehistoric.
Fjords, volcanoes, lavascapes and forests of monkey puzzle trees? We only see them singly in posh gardens here. I suppose as they are pine trees they would grow in forests, if left alone.

Sounds like something out of Tolkien but "prehistoric" is apt. Thanks for that image. Maybe southern Chile should be promoted to the top of my "bucket list" vying with Japan.

My daughter is in the Torres del Paine hiking in 2 weeks. She says it’s more Chile than Argentina.

I’ve been down in Argentina / Chile recently … on way back now.

Great places to visit.

Recommend Bruce Chatwin’s Homage to Patagonia - great book.

Thx for posting will check out the episode when I’m back on TGC 🙏🍊 🏴
