Simon Sadler statement / wider fan engagement

BST put out a very brief note regarding Mr. Sadler's statement earlier today, to both welcome its publication and to invite fans to give us their reaction to it. You can read it here :

There will be plenty of opportunities for dialogue between fans and club as we go forward, and we would like to be able to feed back a balanced set of thoughts and opinions when they arrive. You can contribute your views by emailing us at :

Simple: delighted that Simon owns the club, and grateful for the money he has put in. But puzzled at some of the decisions that have been made in spending some of the money.

Comment from 21 year old son: Communication from the club needs to be more regular. Otherwise statements like this can read as responding to baiting from internet trolls and you will never satisfy them.

Your son is right I think.

I can’t be arsed emailing, I’d rather just stick my comments here, so that they are public.

I think it’s a real shame that BST has (to a great extent) lost focus and strayed so far from the purpose that many of us were so passionately behind. That of holding our club and owners to account and providing a constructive and consistent conduit through which a significant number of fans could rely on to manage the relationship with the Club.

I can’t speak for others, but from a personal perspective the breakdown in relations between Club and Fans has been disappointing and could and definitely should have been handled by both parties better.

I’m hopeful that in reaching out here, this might mark a change of policy from BST and that those of us who have lost faith in you as an organisation can start taking you seriously again.

As far as Simon’s statement is concerned I’m right behind him and as a fan I’m absolutely pig sick of the negativity and constant criticism.

Transparency.
All feels a bit cloak and dagger these days and even the ITK brigade aren’t ITK which is a good thing but fuels all the speculation.

Rich that BST have responded to SS's statement which in large part is an apology for the lack of communication with the fans. Don't BST have regular clandestine meetings with the powers that be without communicating the substance of these meetings to fans. Just a thought.

Sadler could let the success do all the talking….the fact he has to come out with this is evidence of lack of success on the field recently.
To come out with this after one win following a good 12 months of frankly farcical custodianship of the club on the football side is churlish.
A very poor and in some ways patronising statement.
Why does it take months of pressure to elicit any form of reaction to fans concerns and why does it need to be a statement? Maybe regular monthly updates that contain more than potshots at our well meaning but vocal fans and the prior regime would bring people together and enhance understanding. Less “I know better” and more “let’s do it together.”

I am happy with his investment in the club but communication and actual delivery needs work.

Yes BST have clandestine meetings all the time with the club.

They are that clandestine they have started talking about them in their newsletters 🤣

It's a tough one from the clubs point of view though especially in regards to transfers and money. The club and usually clubs we do business with want everything undisclosed which isn't a bad thing as then other clubs don't know for example what we are spending or receiving. The flip side is that it leaves fans out of the loop in regards to what we pay out in loan fees for example last year etc which then leads to the inevitable wheres the Bowler money wheres the Critch compo wheres the Yates money when in reality it's been spent.
Ultimately for me it comes down to do I trust the owner to do what's right for the club and my answer is yes I do as I've no reason to doubt him. I don't necessarily agree with all the decisions he makes be that players or managers appointed or business decisions he makes but that's life isn't it, he owns the club and does what he thinks is best for the club and I dont doubt his motives at all.

You wanted to start your own Supporters group recently.

How’s it going?
I'm pushing for the great sounding....

Anti-Simon Sadler....They could wear masks like modern day bandits and start Anti Simon Sadler chants, during the home games...

I can't claim I approved of most of sadler's managerial appointments but I'm very grateful he owns the club and sticks so much money in it. We have a promotion capable squad and I'm sure there will be even more to come in January if we need it. The only person I doubt is Critch and for the nth time I will be very happy to be proven wrong.

I do support & appreciate Mr Sadler & his continued efforts on behalf of the club,

Whilst acknowledging the significant sums of personal money he has invested, he would perhaps however also do well to give some equal appreciation to the monies invested by less well financially-endowed supporters ‘week-in, week out’.

For many, especially at present, football is not a cheap entertainment, yet many do what they can, where they can, depending on their circumstances - be it occasional or season tickets, TTV, merch etc etc.

I’d love to be able to entertain my friends in a private/corporate box, whilst donating a million quid or so to help fund the club.

Sadly, it’s unlikely to happen anytime soon, but percentage-wise I’ll do what I possibly can - as do thousands of others.

It’s not always about the number of ‘noughts’ you put into the club in making your donation, but also about the ‘thoughts’. Both are great, but the former doesn’t make you better, or more important, than the latter.

Some people wont be happy with the "Communication" from the club until every player & member of staff including SS & the board are fitted with 24hr livestream bodycams !!!!

Out of interest, what is your requirement from Critchley in order for him to have “proved you wrong” ?

And who was your preferred choice for Manager ?

The communication from the club has been poor recently. There was a surge in early summer but its now looking like the Mansford era again i.e. pompous, pious elitism; there is a need to make this a community club. Well done to Simon for grabbing the initiative - what he needs is a good Executive team, which seems a problem. I really appreciated the statement. Crap CEO's kill clubs.

Can we just Simon S some credit

If it was as easy to run a Club like most people think it is on here then we’d be top of the Prem and looking down at Newcastle and their current points crisis and saying ‘do it the Blackpool Way’

We are what we are

Sadler’s statement is slick but more or less correct. The fee for Joseph was make believe because we traded for player plus cash for Yates. His operating costs may be in the top half of league one budgets but our budget was near the bottom in the championship and that coupled with bad decisions on his part led to our relegation. He cherry picks things to prove his point and flashes a little racist tude with his foreign owners jibe. Seems to work well at city, Liverpool and arsenal but they aren’t mentioned. What his statement lacked was an acknowledgment of lessons learned on his part. Maybe next time.
