Sky Sports News

Do EFL managers give big press conferences on a Friday? I know Critch generally does in house and BBC, and that's about it. Can't really show that though.

I did, just presumed the Pool press conference would be on after. Anyway at least I now know that Arsenal ladies have no further injury issues and although City’s goalie has a knock the manager has faith in the understudy so it wasn’t a wasted hour.
What made you think they’d show a League One teams press conference for a game away at Cambridge United?

I understand why Critchley and other league 1 managers press conferences aren't covered on national television. Let's be honest outside of their own fan base nearly all championship teams and at least half the premier league are in a similar position.
So on that basis it is hard to see why women's football gets a disproportionate amount of coverage.
Not overly bothered though, used to watch a fair bit of sky sports news but now it's literally a few minutes a week.

I was obviously being sarcastic. If they show press conferences from teams that can’t even give freebies away you may as well show every EFL club. It’s all a big con to try and convince people there’s interest, I know when there’s war and famine in the world it’s not really a big issue but a lies a lie.

Does anyone EVER watch any football press conferences? Basically televised because Sky Sports have no actual sport to televise. It's hours and hours of inane guff on a loop.

If easily offended don't read this.

Women's football is great for women who play it and anyone else who enjoys watching it.

My big issue is that as much as they promote it, it will NEVER be as big as men's football is, so why does it get more attention than the men's game....???

It's not now and never will be as popular because it's got huge differences to the men's game.
That's not to say it's any lesser of a sport, it's just a different aspect.

To be honest I can take it or leave it if it's in TV.
Would I pay to watch it? Absolutely not.

I support Blackpool FC. Not Blackpool ladies, not AFC Blackpool, not Blackpool Rangers or Blackpool Wren Rovers for that matter.
Do these people who are pushing this agenda not know that people who have supported one team all their lives will not ever support another team?

The whole woke agenda driven thing will drive people away more than attract them to it.
Oh, and as much as I dislike Barton and the fact that he generally spouts absolute crap, he made a good point in respect of people with little experience being put into positions above people with more experience to tick a box.

How would you feel if you were assigned an inexperienced surgeon to carry out an operation on you, ahead of a more experienced surgeon, just because they were from an under represented group.

The World has gone woke mad.

If you are offended I don't care. I wrote at the beginning of this post, a warning. You chose to ignore it and now you choose to be offended. That's your right, as is mine to ignore you.

Rant over.....

Best rant I have heard in years.

You’ll be upset by the cost of the stamps if you’ve spent an hour writing cards unless you're hand delivering of course 🤣🤣
2.20€ for overseas,k that is under £2, I don't think that is excessive. Is it £2.80 in the UK now? And, as a stamp collector, I do not like those barcodes on the new stamps, yuk!

Spurs Ladies v Arsenal Ladies coming up. Its £3.50 for kids and a whole family is £30. An adult ticket for the mens game would be north of £90 minimum.
Of course they are going to get decent crowds at that rate, it will be the only opportunity some will have of getting to see the stadium and a match there

And what’s wrong with that ?
I think it’s fantastic kids get out to watch sport (probably the best women’s league in the world) - when I was a kid, footie was affordable (the costs are comparable with reserve team men’s footie) now it’s only so in the women’s game - the I ssueswith the men’s game are complex

Even L1footie seems unreasonably excessive cost wise

It's not just women's footy though, is it? Sky go over the top on F1, but never mention MotoGP or WSB. And darts...really?? They only report on sports that they have the rights to, no matter how great or boring they are.

Record transfer fee in the women’s game is £400k she gets paid 8k a week the others will be on loads less it won’t be much to go and watch it if that’s anything to go by. It will grow but it’s not ever going to reach the standard of the men’s game the top team in the women’s game would get beat every week in the national league north/south it’s probably a lower standard.

I don't think it's all to do with a woke agenda, although that might be part of it. Sky are pushing women's football because they know that before too long, men's football is going to be too much for them to afford, and they'll easily lose out to streaming services such as Amazon, Netflix and Disney etc. So they're pushing women's football as the best thing since sliced bread because they think it can become their next big cash cow. There's no way they'd be promoting it so aggressively just in the name of equality.

I think it's great that young girls who like football can now have role models and a career path to becoming a professional player and be rewarded reasonably well for it. The women's world cup will have spawned a new generation of players. The women's game is much more technical than the men's game ATM, there is no reliance on brute force. The quality of the product has greatly improved over the years. If there wasn't the audience for it, Sky wouldn't be showing it. However I still prefer the men's game, but it's not aimed at me.
As for women pundits - like male pundits I can take or leave them and like some, dislike others. For instance, Emma Hayes is a good analyst and always worth listening to, I was hoping that she would get a job in the male leagues.

and half the population are women - women's sport generally is on the up which is good to see - sport whatever your level or inclination to ewatch should always be encouraged. It has it's place in society

Sky are being forced to share men's football in the UK with other channels like BT, it's anti-competition legislation that has done for them not the cost. They are the only player prepared to pay the massive cost for exclusive rights.

Would you pay £30 to watch a team you don't support and players you've never heard of?

I'd rather go to the pub or mow the lawn.

It's not for me, it's agenda driven and it's poor quality.

60k at Arsenal Vs Chelsea at the weekend, largest ever women's crowd. It's a growing market, Sky's coverage is about future revenue nothing more.
It is, as usual, all about the big clubs.

I wouldn't pay 1 pence to watch a women's game.

As I've stated before, my team is Blackpool FC.

It might not be the highest standard of football but it's a million times better women's football which is no better than Sunday league.

I think you are probably right with that. I think Sky have well and truly missed out on the streaming revolution with their greed in having people on huge satellite and phone bills. You won't see a satellite dish for much longer as more people choose to stream. All the major TV goliaths are offering streaming for less than £10 per month. Sky have come late to the party with this Skyglass thing in an attempt to maintain revenue stream by throwing in a TV (which will cost them very little) whilst still trying to rob people. It won't work.

People are already abandoning them and they are losing out on a lot of events to the streaming companies. Sky could be clinging on for dear life within the next few years with broadcasting rights to sport as you say.

It's not aimed at you. Nobody cares that you won't watch it. I read your rant, I'm not shocked, I'm simply not bothered what you think about women's football. You sound like King Canute, standing in the sea commanding the tide to stop coming in. Stick to shouting at airplanes, it will be more productive.
There is a big audience for women's football, largely of new fans who were not previous consumers. That is what Sky is hoping to attract. Good luck to them, there is plenty of room for both men and women's football.

Women's football has been round for decades so it's nothing new.
I might be in the realms of fantasy here but maybe with the Saudis/UAE owning most of London are now trying to own the prem and take it to the Middle East in the future so that gap would have to be filled with something other than having just lower leagues.

It would be worse than lower leagues if women's football were to be used as a substitute.
It's a great sport for those who love to watch it.
It has many qualities of its own but to give it a direct comparison with men's professional football would be way off the mark.

It's just the typical lefty wokey inclusiony pandering we've all come to expect from Sky Sports over the years.

They should cancel the licence fee.
no licence fee for Sky Sports. dont blame the beeb for this one. there is the highlights show on ITV . thats as good as it gets.

Why do those with views like these assume everyone who disagrees will be offended. It is a way of marginalizing opposition. We are just over sensitive wokes. I am not offended I just disagree. More and more women are following women's football. It is right the BBC and Sky support this and also value for money. Are we men really saying there is not enough coverage of men's football.
