So if we had beaten Cardiff……

Knew at the time it was pivotal, that’s what is particularly annoying. Mad Mick should have been back on the golf course by then. It was kind of obvious.

What about the shambolic “defending” in front of him and some vital saves he made in other games?

He’s not perfect but to single him out is pathetic and boring now.
saved us well over 4. Cardiff game is the first to spring to mind

Maxwell was 1 clean sheet in 7 and at one point it was 1 in 10 before MA was sacked.
Grimmy was 1 clean sheet in 3 before he was dropped and since he came back he has kept 3 clean sheets in 5.
If that doesn't ring any alarm bells with you then god help us.

The defending has been poor all season, but the fact is Grimmy has three clean sheets in five games now - with the same defenders in front of him. It might be down to better organisation in general, but also sometimes the goalie gives the defenders more confidence by being more decisive, displaying better judgement, and being more aggressive. Maxwell's a good keeper, as he proved when he kept god knows how many clean sheets in the promotion season. But, he's been woefully out of form for weeks. I don't accept this notion that because he's a good shot stopper he should be our number one. Grimshaw proved today he can do that too, but you need more than that to keep the goals conceded column down.

Same might have happened with Dobbie or whoever else came in . If we had landed Warnock & still got relegated we'd be slgging off that decision too . SS should have pushed the boat out and prized pep away from Citeh but there would still be no guarantees , its football its life you cant live by hindsight

Without Wigan and Reading being deducted points, we'd have still finished bottom.
Correct.
Ifs, buts and maybes
The fact remains we didn't beat Cardiff. They battered us at home for the second, consecutive season ( McCarthy in the blue corner last year)
We lost more games and "earned" fewer points than any other team, deductions notwithstanding.
We were probably the worst team in the Championship.
Let's hope we take stock, select wisely and rebuild, otherwise we might be struggling to consolidate in League 1.

…… we would still be a Championship team tonight. Why the fcuk did we appoint the dinosaur 🦖🙄
Or - we wouldn't have sacked McCarthy and then we wouldn't have picked up the nine points we got under Dobbie (maybe 4 at most). Agreed the problem was appointing McCarthy in the first place, and I suspect we have our recently departed Sporting Director Mr Badlan to thank for that one.
