We can't seem to get past old managers can we.
I'm glad it's done and we can start planning for next season, and there's no doubting that NC can be successful. But I can't help feeling we're setting ourselves up for another fall. What worries me most about this is that when we're talking about a strategy or plan long term, it appears to be Neil. Neil actually is the plan, and nothing else. It doesn't seem to be a plan that covers any different manager at all. It seems we're extremely reliant on one man, and that's really not a good thing.

I couldn't care less how he left tbh, I just think it's a bad appointment. Not quite as bad as McCarthy, but still ill-advised, I'd say. It's divisive, he doesn't have the fans as he had last time, and it's going to take a lot for him to win everyone over. I do think his fans will be expecting him to pick up where he left off and for him to be as successful as last time, but it doesn't work like that. Some expectations need to be lowered, I think. The squad is quite different, without players like Madine and Keshi, and as ever recruitment will be key.

All that said, on a positive note I do think we'll benefit from his knowledge of EFL players, as we did the first time around. Also, we have a number of really promising young players who might benefit from him being here. I'm thinking Lyons in particular. I also think that SS wouldn't have been able to get him back had he not had reassurances that he'll be backed in the transfer market - as that appeared to me to be one of the problems towards the end of his first tenure. The Brannagan saga being the most obvious one.

So, despite my reservations I will support him and hope he does well. If he does, so do we and that's the most important thing. It'll be interesting to see how things develop from here, but I think he will need to read the room, and ditch the celebrations at the end of the game. It just won't be the same. Not initially anyway, if we start doing really well, then all will be forgiven probably.

It's done. On to player recruitment rumours!
