So who's good enough to play in the Championship

I'll be surprised if Robson goes anywhere as he was one of Critchley's first signings. At worst, he's likely to get some pre-season match time then, if it doesn't look like he'll figure much, be given the option of a loan somewhere which he can choose to take or not.

I don't see any risk in extending Kaikai's contract. Worst case scenario, he's clearly not up to it and leaves at the end of next season.

There may be a couple who don't want to re-sign anyway. Given Garbutt's career it wouldn't surprise me to see him leave.

my two penth for what it’s worth.

The majority of the squad we have today have the ability to play in the championship in a mid table side which is where we’re going to aim to be. I for one right now am confident that we’ll comfortably achieve this next term.

it seems fairly obvious people like Robson, Nuttall, Shaw, Garrity and Lubala will depart for various reasons.

With the remaining out of contract lads, Turton not only deserves but has value for us on a 1 + 1 deal.
Garbutt is a must for something like a 2 year deal
I’d give Husband similar to Turton forget the option and get him on a new 1+1

I’d take up the option on Wards contract and not give him a new contract purely because of the depth we have in central mid, but we could use him next season.

Two of the toughest ones would be Madine and KK. I’d again try and sign both to 1+1s. Would they go for that? Maybe not, but they’re both capable of winning us games in the Championship. Personally I’d class them as luxury players, isn’t it now amazing we can afford luxuries.

I’d do our best to get Ballard and Gabriel back in any capacity. A month ago I said Simms wasn’t good enough to be kept on next season, I’ve changed my mind after his end of season performances, I think he’s got a bright future and could bag a few next year.

much depends on coming and goings regarding new signings. If Ballard stays and Husband signs on, do we need Thorneily? Harsh as he’s barely put a foot wrong after a few early wobbles, but his wages could be freed up for one more potent attacker.
If we can’t get Gabriel again, which seems unlikely or They decide not to go for Turton right back will be need to be an area of investment.

what ever happens I think we need another main striker to work with Yates and take him to the next level.
You think Turton and Husband are worth a 1+1 but a player the quality of Ward is not!
Staggered.
The rest probably spot on.

Supply and demand my friend, central
Midfield is absolutely loaded, and probably will be for the next 2/3 years. Giving Ward a significantly longer and improved contract would at the minute appear to be a waste of resources.

Where as a slightly improved 1 year deal for probably two back up players, who have both shown their worth and in an area where we’re not over loaded (RB) or the player is incredibly versatile (Husband) would in my view be sensible.

In effect it’s the same deal for all three, a one year deal. You just retain the option with Husband and Turton, as I don’t think it’ll be necessary with Ward.

The board and manager have been talking about it for weeks according to Mansford
Fair enough it’s the professional thing to do but I still feel a bit uncomfortable about a thread talking about getting rid of husband, Ollie etc so soon, but yes that’s football & at the end of the day we just want to be successful so they know what they’re doing

The current team has been greater than the sum of its parts. If you analyse each player in isolation I don't think there are too many that you could say are nailed on Championship class. There are a lot of players that I hope will step up to the plate and thrive but we will be gambling on a few. Centre defence is a worry if Ballard goes back..not sure about Ekpiteta, Thorniley, Husband or Turton in there at that level. We also need craft and guile in midfield so this is an area for investment. I don't think CJ is going to storm it..you need more than lightning speed and imo his control and end product is not good enough..hope I'm wrong. Kaikai is a luxury that only turned up every 4 or 5 games in League1. Who believes he will improve his performance ratio in the Championship? Not me. Definitely need another forward..I like Simms but he is still a bit raw and would be a good signing..but not a nailed on starter.. I,d prefer an experienced prolific goalscorer to start alongside Yates.
Madine has been good when fit but could we squeeze another fantastic year out of him? I don't know. So two new defenders, two new midfielders and a new striker would massively improve the squad. It may be that things are done slowly in two or three windows. Objective 1 stay up..2nd season mid table..3rd season kick on further to the play offs.
That'd do me.

Not many would have seen Keith Southern being one of the best midfielders in the championship. Likewise many wouldnt have predicted Keigan Parkers failure at that level.

As long as Jerry keeps his workrate I can't see him not succeeding , he's also got great ability (the Portsmouth goal among others was world class ) he also brings so much even if he doesn't score (God I haven't loved a player as much since... Charlie probably)

I want to keep them all,.they're all heroes in my eyes. Unfortunately to progress as a football club we won't be able to.

Youngsters - loan out - Shaw, Antwi, Apter, Holmes
Good shout on Turton and Kaikai, shame though.

What I’d say is unless anyone 25+ has already been in the Championship I’d say they might struggle - anyone under 25 has their career in front of them and has much more chance of success.
