Some Marv facts

When Marv was in the championship you could literally give him MOTM every game and I was thinking how the hell are we going to keep him. Since Critchley came back from his sabbatical he is a shadow of his former self. Critchleys coaching abilities have declined since his return and Marv for one has suffered. His passing stats are irrelevant I've watched games where the midfield are playing the me to you football and again he's been the fall guy.

First season in the Championship yes, under Appleton last season he was awful. His passing has always been miles off, even when he was playing well in the Championship, I just feel the current tactics highlight that weakness more than ever

Marv is in inarguably our best defender for several years.

But let's get this right, his passing and work with the ball at his feet is woeful in comparison and in the modern game, it isn't good enough.

I love the guy, but he's a liability in this department.

How the fcuk can you blame Critch for Marv being a former shadow of himself?
When Marv wasn’t playing there were a few on here saying he should be a regular starter and yet now when he has been playing it’s once again Critchley’s fault.
Marv is an experienced defender and I agree he was solid in the Championship but you are not telling me that he is under strict instructions to stick his foot out and score 2 own goals in successive games.
As regards successful passes Marv only passes it about 5 yards at the most because he is (IMO) lacking confidence, but that ain’t Critch’s fault. So how can that be classed as successful when others are passing it maybe 20 or 30 yards.
Imagine if Marv had the same confidence as Husband and was quite happy to bring the ball out of defence over 50 yards or so, but he hasn’t

This is just another “let’s have a go at Critch post”
What is up with you people?

He's amateur with the ball at his feet, positioning questionable at times. Good at doing the defending blocks, headers etc. I'd have casey and Pennington over him any day, sign another cd n let him go on his way

He’s far better in a flat back four in my opinion and I reckon Pennington could play the Uncle Richard role

We needed an experienced CB to replace Keogh. Never happened, for whatever reason and Marv has suffered as a result.

It’s not the number of defenders that makes a difference, it’s the style of play. He has also struggled in a back 4 when we were trying to build from the back.

I said it before, but in my opinion he was nursed through the Championship season by ‘Uncle Richard’.
