Some points on today

1, We played ok. Not great, but it was decent against one of the leagues best sides.
2. The stats showed they were better than us, but not by much
3. The ref was crap, but not the reason we lost.
4. They were gifted the goal. If we can't stop doing that, it's going to be a long and difficult season. Thompson had a poor game, although I do rate him.
5. We have no firepower.
6. We have filled the team with players who can run with the ball quite well, but can't find a five yard pass.
7. Patino is very good, but did make some errors. He'll get even better with game time.
8. Why did MA wait so long to make the subs? This was always an accusation against NC, so it's surely right we ask this?
9. We almost always play better with four at the back instead of three CBs
10. We struggle for creativity now that Bowler has gone. That's a shock.
11. There is no excuse for MA dropping Grimmy for Maxwell. Grimmy is a better keeper, I'm sorry but no-one will convince me otherwise. It's a really poor decision.
12. On point 11, Maxwell stayed on his line at least twice in the second half when he had ample time to come and claim. His judgement is questionable, although the goal wasn't his fault.
13. Today was an expected defeat, some of it encouraging, some of it poor, some shit refereeing and one or two bizarre decisions from the manager.
14. We move on. MA should be given time.

Agree with some of that, disagree with some.
Maxwell played well.
Yes, he did stay on his line twice when he should have come out.

Agree with most of that but maxwell was decent, patino did make errors but that’s expected so early on for him playing in the championship, I’m in the north & after a wayward pass from patino some idiot screams you ** retard at him!
Football fans ehh glad he can’t hear us

maxwell played really well
more demanding than grimmy
thompson had a poor game but has potential if hubby fit he starts

Patino seemed to be sitting deeper than Kenny most of the game, which for me personally is the wrong way round?

He and Wright pushed into the 8/10 roles with their quick passing and flair will create chances.

I really don’t want to see Kenny trying to do that on the edge of their box, as much as I don’t want to see Charlie trying to screen out centre backs and having to win headers and 50/50 challenges.

Might be a fitness thing, but I hope MA can iron that out in training

I might get pelters, but I thought Dougall was rejuvenated today, by having ball players in the midfield with him. I’ve made no secret that I’m a big fan of him, but he has struggled recently as IMO he’s had to do things that aren’t his strength. Today he was causing them headaches when they got the ball, rather than just firefighting in front of the back four, and then when he did have the ball, he had someone to give it to, rather than hold on to it too long and get caught in possession/try a difficult pass and fail. Yes the break he had first half gave him a bit of a nosebleed, but he made that chance himself so not too critical of that, but otherwise his best game in a good while IMO.

I think the idea of having Patino deeper was that when we play out from the back we have a creative player on the ball. Whether it worked or not, agree I’m not too sure but it’s only one game so happy to see how it evolves.

Agree with all that apart from the criticism of Maxwell. Grimshaw has gifted 3 goals in the last two games. Taking him out of the firing line was the right call.

Dougall was very good yesterday. He is actually decent on the ball and plays better with more technical people around him. Not sure what people expect from him playing in a midfield two with Connolly. Most people would struggle with that ask.
