Some random thoughts

Some random thoughts after I’ve had a drink and calmed down.

What about the yoof, Neil?
Everywhere I look in the league and cup, managers are giving youth players a chance. Some like to score against us. Even Chelsea were at it today, with a 17 year old making an impressive senior debut. I would have thought with NC being a previous youth coach, we would have seen far more of our U19 stars - at some point - any point in the league / cup. Why play players out of position or their normal role, e.g. Connolly, when we have talented younger players who can fill in during this injury crisis?

Half-hearted H/T
Why do the team consistently come out in the 2nd half like they’ve all been on the good stuff at a slumber party? What’s said during the half time team talk, because it’s not working. I’m beginning to think they should just stay out there, passing it around and warming up. Couldn’t possibly be any worse.

Injuries
Can’t all be down to bad luck and the heavy fixture list. Young and older. All going down with bad, long term injuries. We must be able to do something different to help, even if it’s improved strength & muscle conditioning, diet, warm ups and exercises specifically targeted to avoiding common injuries, technical equipment improvements to avoid things like metatarsal damage. I’m no expert but it seems too commonplace to be attributed to rotten luck alone.

Fall to (set) pieces
Our delivery from set pieces is consistently woeful. Composure in final third, lacking. What do they do in training? Stop running them through cones and jumping little barriers and actually get them to repeat the art of delivering the perfect ball into the box. Through repetition, not wishful thinking.

Decision making and delivery
Maybe that’s a problem area we can resolve in this transfer window with the long overdue creative midfielder(s) we so clearly need asap.
It’s easy to blame those players today for missing numerous gilt edged chances, but look back again and most balls were blasted with too much pace across goal making them more difficult to control. Calm down, take some pace off the pass and play a more measured ball into the box, to feet.

We’ve got a week now to hopefully strengthen the squad and do endless shooting / passing drills… 😬⚽🥅

Considering you’ve been on the sauce, that’s a measured, constructive post. The problem, as I see it, 6 weeks ago it would have been just as relevant..., that’s of real concern to me.... we seemed to have stopped learning.

Or is it a case of the transfer window has only just opened and we couldn't do anything about it?

Was yesterday's team the one he'd want to put out, or forced by injuries and covid.

We have far to many injuries. We simply need to get some fresh faces in this month and hopefully before Barnsley next week and not at midnight on the 31st

Fair point. But that doesn’t excuse the second half or some of NC decisions... re Huddersfield.. Hull..
