Must be more than this....
Joan Baez about Bob Dylan Diamonds and Rust

Fleetwood Mac about Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own way

Don Mclean - American Pie (A tribute to Buddy Holly)

Razorlight about Pete Doherty
Don´t Go Back to Dalston

What did Jonny Cash write for Joan Carter ???

Simple Desultory Phillipic by Paul Simon. A sneery sarcastic put down of Bob Dylan complete with pish take harmonica solo. Simon appeared jealous of Dylan in mid sixties hence this song. He has mellowed somewhat since and they are friends and have appeared together on stage.

Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd was written in response to Neil Young's "Alabama" and "Southern Man" (All 3 are great songs).

He gets an entire verse dedicated to name checking him:

Well, I heard Mister Young sing about her (southern man)
Well, I heard ol' Neil put her down
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A southern man don't need him around, anyhow

When I saw the title, that was my first thought.

There's a guy works down the chip shop swears he's Elvis. Kirsty McCall

Carly Simon... You're so vain...about Warren Beatty.... He must have sung in the bath at least to qualify for this thread

First Aid Kit - Emmylou
Don McLean- American Pie
Manic Street Preachers - Let Robeson Sing

David Bowie - Song for Robert Zimmerman

and also Lady Stardust (tribute to Marc Bolan)

The Smiths - William it was really nothing (Billy MacKenzie of the Associates allegedly)

Hmm... 🤔... Yep, you're right Dave62 and TTG. I rushed in without thinking (nothing new there!) Shine on, is the one about Syd (with a Y) Barrett.

But, I always think about Syd when I listen to WYWH, and I'm claiming that for me, if no one else. I suspect Dave Gilmour did to when he wrote it. It's hard not to. 😢

There are three verses to this song and apparently each refers to a different bloke. The only one she has confirmed is verse two about Warren Beatty . . . the other two are still a secret to most people although she believes WB thinks the whole song is about him !!

Just remembered this one..

Led Zeppelin paying homage to Roy Harper (influential folk musician, sang on Pink Floyd's "Have a Cigar") who lived in St. Annes!
