Here's one for all you arachnids.

It's spider mating time, when the male spiders wander out of their webs, wherever they may be, to find a female spider to mate with. The females apparently stay put in their abodes awaiting the males to find them, and this is why , at this time of the year you will see more of them about than normal in your house.

We have seen a rather large one knocking about in our living room for a few nights, probably around 6 to 7cm including the legs. However, last night I went to close the curtains, and three big ones fell out of the folds, onto the floor, and scuttled away. Fortunately, I'm not frightened of them but wondered how some others would have reacted if this were in their house.

Thanks for that Curryman, I was wondering why there seems so many of the things about this last week or two! I don't mind them but I am getting bored of scooping them up and relocating them outside. Might just leave them to it as I now feel bad that I am seemingly guilty of inadvertent arachnid cock blocking.

We found a ‘funny looking’ spider a few years ago….turns out it was a false widow. We banged it in a glass just because my missus was freaking out, all of its mates came flying out of the curtains, was pretty worrying when finding how poisonous they apparently are

I’d better prepare for the shrieks & it’s not just the wife 😂 there’s only me that saves the poor buggers from being unceremoniously squashed under foot. 🙄

We live in the countryside so we get plenty of spiders each year and they don't tend to cause much fuss. However, over 35 years ago we lived in Sale and in the dusk one evening my wife spotted a couple of dark objects moving across the lounge carpet. I put the light on and a nest of large spiders swarmed though the open front windows (apparently next door's dog had disturbed their nests in the bushes outside our windows). There must have been 50 0r 60 large spiders scurrying around the lounge at the same time. My wife can cope with 2 or 3, but that many caused her to jump onto the dining table and stay there until I had caught and got rid of them. That took me about an hour and a half!

That just made me shudder, hate the things. I'd of been like your wife on the table!

I keep cellar spiders as "pets" - the spindly long-legged ones that create cobwebs. Hardly ever see a house spider even at this time of year because my puny looking gals/guys are more than a match for the more robust housies. Of course I do have to deal with the cobwebs!

Are the females really waiting to be found or are they hiding, hoping not to be 😏

We've been overrun by those horrible skinny ones with tiny bodies and long legs. They can walk across ceilings and go like shit off a stick if you try to get them in the patent spider catcher (a plastic cup and an old postcard) 😗

We had a brave one on the rug last night that must be invisible to cats.
Caught it before it became extra protein for felines and put it in my garage.

This is a spider we had on the wall the other day - he's about 15cm across. The dog tried to get him but after four rounds they both retired to their respective corners and decided to call it a draw!IMG_20201108_102350.jpg

I live in Brazil - very few spiders in the house - must get scared off by the ants, sloths cockraoches, lizards, and occasional small mouse and scorpions... actually I guess the little geckos would eat any up .... a two headed snake is the weirdest thing we have had indoors...
