Spoilt in midfield ?

I read on another thread about Critch wanting 2 players per position and interchangeable.
So you now in midfield have 3 holding midfielders (Trybul, Norburn, Connolly)
2 box to box midfielders in Virtue and Dougall.
2 attacking midfielders in Morgan and Carey.
You can then mix and match the balance of the 3 types.

It looks like width comes from the wing backs so our traditional wingers like Dale, CJ and Apter will need to either slot into the 10 behind the main striker or it will be a formation change.

Virtue is a must in the midfield....looks bigger and stronger this season. Some hard work and telling passes yesterday

I'd completely forgotten about Owen Dale - will he still be here at the start of the season?

It’s a good question. Seemed to have a good season for Portsmouth in Div 1 last season so maybe, just maybe he might offer something?

Or we make weight in a deal for a player we want?

He played Connolly as one of the three centre backs on saturday. I wonder if that's where he sees him playing in that system. Marv, Connoly & Pennington is a very strong back 3. The 2 competing for left wing back could then be Thompson & Hubby.

Lyons can also compete for LWB when JG returns another decent option available to us, also CJ has on occasion played WB.

Who you dropping out of Norburn, Trybull and Carey then?
I like Matty and would probably not drop any of those mentioned for him, but with injuries and substitutes and loss of form, I am equally sure Matty would get lots of game time. We have a very strong midfield which is the one area that has hamstrung us for years, so would be very reluctant to weaken it.
Matty is probably worth 4 or 5 goals, a, season if played regularly and we need goals from midfield.

Hardly makes him a must. I think he's a decent option and a different profile to the others we have, but I think he's very much a squad option at this stage. He seems to have become more indispensable than he is in some people's eyes because of some time away from the club and a through ball in a pre season friendly.

He is as you stated a different profile to others, I remember him as not a bad player but too easily knocked off the ball and that is what has changed in my eyes, plus the confidence that he is not a bit part player now 5 subs are allowed.
He is the right age to stamp his authority on the team,he was Critchley captain at youth level and his and Carey's goals will be crucial

I think Virtue is quite likely to go to Wrexham?

I've watched the Barrow game through twice on TTV and everyone looked fine to me, including Thompson, Husband and Dougall. But it was a friendly, not the best game for judging the team and individuals really. Some positive signs of course.

There will need to be key players getting 60 - 90 minutes tomorrow night surely.

Weird isn't it to read an o/p like that when we've lost Fiorini, Patino and Keshi - maybe they did flatter to deceive after all?!
